Tony Todd cast in 24 prequel movie/season 7

Eric Lively, Tony Todd and Gil Bellows have been cast in the "24" prequel.

The two-hour "24" prequel to the upcoming seventh season will feature Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) battling an international crisis in Africa while the U.S. ushers in a new president on Inauguration Day.

"L Word" alum Lively, brother of "Gossip Girl" star Blake Lively, will play the president's son.

Bellows, best known for his role on Fox's "Ally McBeal," will play a State Department officer ordered to serve Bauer with a subpoena to appear before the Senate.

Todd, who also will appear during Season 7, will play cruel African dictator Gen. Juma. Todd has been recurring on NBC's "Chuck" as CIA director Graham.

On the prequel, Lively, Todd and Bellows join previously cast Robert Carlyle.

This will be Tony Todd's second appearance on 24. He previously appeared as a police detective in one episode back in season 3.

Apparently the prequel uses the storyline they were going to use to start season 7 with but ended up scrapping.

So Jack Bauer has to fight Candyman now? :p

Is this the first time 24 has recycled actors? It seems to happen every other week on CSI and Law & Order.

This could be dicey. I am not sure a prequel will work, but I'll watch. And Kiefer is starting to show his age. I was watching season one about three months ago and he has aged a lot since then..good luck with that!!!

I wonder if this is just a way to bring back SHERRY!!!

They did it at least once before with an actor named Anthony Azizi. He appeared in season 2 and 4 as two different characters, both terrorists.

Keep in mind, this isn't really a prequel to anything we've seen before. It'll be set after the 6th season, and lead into the 7th season. No one (aside from Tony...) should be returning from the dead.

A second Ally alumnus (following from Peter McNichol last season) and the return of Todd. Sounds good to me.

In some ways I'm looking forward to this more than the 7th season. In the last few seasons of 24, the beginning has been the best, with the show beginning to flag a few episodes in. I'd imagine they'll find it easier to keep up the momentum for a 2 hour movie - though wrapping up a storyline that easily might be alien to the writers!

I wonder if this movie will be set over a 24 hour period or 2 hour period or will it simply ignore the ticking clock scenario of the show proper.

Exactly. I forgot to include the qualifier that it was a prequel for season seven in my post, so thanks for pointing it out.

Apparently Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, 28 Weeks Later, The World is Not Enough) has also been cast as a mentor figure to Jack. Wonder if he'll be doing an American accent or using his Scottish one.

Begbie in 24, hmmm ...

'Some wee lassie has been glassed and nay c*nt is getting oota here for the next 24 hoors, till we find oot wit c*nt done it!'

I doubt it. I mean, how much can Jack Bauer accomplish in two hours? (Wait, that's a stupid question, isn't it.)

Like Conan or Mad Max, I can see a ripped Jack Bower in his 70s ruling what remains of a cursed earth from the mount of a throne built of human skulls... jack Baur talking to the seante? I wonder if it will be half as delightful as Alan Shaw berating the Supreme Court.

I though Gill Bellows fell down a rabbit hole.

I'm not sure how I feel about 24 anymore. Seasons 1 and 2 were great. Season 3 not so much, well the 2nd half rocked, shame the same can't be said for the 1st. Season 4 was lame. Season 5 was cool. Season 6 was horrible. I'm not sure I can stand the inconsistency.
