Tom, of course, being the male teacher Clara spoke to in Day of the Doctor, and not that other bloke. i09 seems to think there's a chance that Tom will be a male companion to the 12th Doctor, or at the very least there's a chance he'll come back. Source: io9 And yeah, I totally made that topic title misleading. You know you want some more Tom Baker.
You certainly got my hopes up for a second, despite my just having read the io9 article minutes earlier.
MIckey seemed like a throw away character at first. What if they have always meant that after 12 regenerations a Timelord is supposed to have a re-naming ceremony?
With the regeneration and "her" Doctor gone, they might give Clara that guy as a potential love interest. It'll be like the two schoolteachers that were with the First Doctor, too. If it happens, of course.
^Yeah I was thinking it does seem increasingly like Moffat is (softly)rebooting the show, an older Doctor, two school teacher companions...if one of the first things Capaldi does is take a trip to post Dalek Apocalyse Earth to pick up Susan it's irrefutable!
Didn't I see somewhere a few months back that Jenna will be leaving halfway through the season? And also, wasn't there the same rumour about Martha's "Tom" a few years ago. Which never happened.
If Moffat is really thinking about creating an echo of the original TARDIS gang, I hope he keeps a character like Ian, one of my favorite Companions, who was never afraid to take issues with the Doctor's reckless attitude.
I've been watching the very early Hartnell stories and I totally agree. Ian was a great character. If what Moffat says about the Doctor being more "difficult", we may very well see this dynamic arise again. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Clara who put the brakes on the Doctor's recklessness! Mr Awe
I would love going back to more then one companion. Although I think I´d prefer someone who has already been established as one.
