Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new one

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

Amy is way hotter than Sally ever was IMHO.

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

Amy and Rory are basically Sally and her boyfriend

I've heard this comparison made before, but I don't get see it myself. Amy and Sally are two completely different characters. While Rory and Larry are both lovable losers and human doormats, Rory never came off as being quite as pathetic as Larry. Rory at least remembers to wear his pants.

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

Just not when he'a dressed as a Centurion.

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

Actually, I can see where Sally and Larry (if the actors were available) would have evolved to be what Amy & Rory became. Maybe that's what Moffat had in mind when writing the new (Amy/Rory) stories. Some changes were made (like having the Doctor crash at Amy's house when she was younger, or maybe not).

What if Sally & Larry were 11's companions. When it's their time to leave, they're in (their) future, against the Weeping Angels, they get touched and sent back in time to the record store to live on in the past. A little convoluted, but don't be so sure that Moff isn't planning something like that for Amy/Rory, especially since their last episode will include an encounter with the Weeping Angels.

set in New York, where young Melody regenerated last season...

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

I really don't see what Sally and Larry have in common with Amy and Rory, other than a vague resemblance between Larry and Rory. (Rory's much more of a hipster in his fashion choices than Larry, though.)

Sally and Larry are nothing like Amy and Rory. I could see someone basing the comparison of Rory and Larry on having only seen The Eleventh Hour. But Rory has ever been a Larry-type character. And neither were Sally and Amy anything like. Sally's a more scholarly type of character, and also more esoteric. You would never see Amy say that being sad is "happy for deep people".

I've personally always compared Amy and Rory with Sarah Jane and Harry, except removing the romance/marriage aspects.

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

So the big question for me is when does Jenna begin filming her new role in Dr. Who?

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

Well, from what I've read at Gallifreybase:

The current block is Episodes 1 and 5, and they are filming both concurrently from the look of it.

Episode 4 is its own block.

Episode 6 (Jenna's first) is its own block.

So, I'd guess maybe late May or June.

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

Depends on the gap, if any, between halves of S7.

Don't they take a break in shooting when there's a break in the season?

No, all episodes of a season are always filmed together, even if they air as a split season.

Jenna Louise Coleman's audition script with reused Sally sparrow lines

The Doctor: So you saw it coming in here? What did it look like?
Jasmine: Gray. Sort of dusty. Like it was made of spider webs.
The Doctor: And it came through the wall?
Jasmine: Yeah, That wall there.
The Doctor: And made a moaning sound.
Jasmine: Moaning, groaning, yeah.
The Doctor: And you don't think it was a ghost. Why not?
Jasmine: Because there's no such thing as ghosts.
The Doctor: You know, a lot of people who saw what you just saw wouldn't still think that
Jasmine: Obviously. Otherwise there wouldn't still be idiots who believes in ghosts.
The Doctor: What were you doing here?
Jasmine: I love this place. It's.. beautiful
The Doctor: It's falling apart
Jasmine: It's old. I love old things, they make me sad
The Doctor: What's good about sad?
Jasmine: It's happy for deep people. You'd know.
The Doctor: I'm not sad.
Jasmine: Oh, you are though. Under all that talking and leaping about. Takes one to know one.
The Doctor: So you come here... for recreational sadness.
Jasmine: Yeah. In a way. Okay, why are you looking at me like that?
The Doctor: You remind me of an old friend of mine. Someone I lost a long time ago.
Jasmine: Down boy. I'm not her.
The Doctor: Oh, I know you're not - I don't believe in ghosts either.
Jasmine: Oh my god, what's that?!
The Doctor: Okay, just stay calm.
Jasmine: But that's the thing I saw before.
The Doctor: Yep, and it's coming towards us. I expect you noticed that. Say it with me - I don't believe in ghosts.
Jasmine: I don't believe in ghosts.
The Doctor: Louder! I don't believe in ghosts. !
Jasmine: I don't believe in ghosts! Will this work?
The Doctor: No idea, never met a ghost before

Yeah, when you hear the term "recording block" that just means a set of episodes done back to back or at the same time usually utilizing the same director. Last year there was a break of several months before production ended on Let's Kill Hitler but that was due to the necessity of waiting for the cornfield to grow out. In theory they could put in a break if they were doing a true split season but a) we don't know that they are - if the show takes a few weeks off at Christmas and returns in January or February that's not a split, as per my thread on the topic - and even if there is a full split, last year they filmed episodes from both halves early on and later changed the order of the episodes so they can't really take a proper break. There's nothing saying JLC's first episode to be filmed will actually be the Christmas special. It could be any of the others. And Karen and Arthur could come back months from now and film an episode, even if their final episode gets shot earlier.

Re: the audition script (which presumably was taken from this month's DWM, and no I don't expect "Jasmine" to be the character's name either) - interesting that we'd be discussing Sally Sparrow and what ends up being used for the audition but Sally Sparrow dialogue. I wonder if they used the same script when Karen auditioned? It's sort of like how Eon Productions always uses the script from the Tatiana Romanova seduction sequence from From Russia with Love when auditioning new Bonds.

Yes, the BC story's a bit of a joke as Moffat states clearly in his column that it's defintely not her name and explains that he wrote three scenes specifically for the audition, two of which will wind up in actual episodes and the third (which got printed) which won't.

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

Y'know, watching Jenna in the Titanic miniseries, I think it would be cool if the new companion was from that time period, early 1900s, or perhaps earlier, like in the time of Madam Vastra & Jenny, say. It would just give things a different spin than the usual contemporary gal.

Re: Todays press conference roundupSo, Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new

It'd be cooler if Vastra and Jenny *were* the new companions...

I've often wondered if there'd be the same clamor for their return if they'd be Master Vastra and Jeremy...

Depends who played them and how the costumes worked out.

But overall, yeah, I think there would - Half the audience clamour for Madame and Jenny, and the other half would clamour for Master and Jeremy.

Preferably with better names though.
