To See or Not To See?

Do you currently intend to see the movie?

  • I don't have serious concerns about the movie, but probably won't see it.

You know I find it suprising after all this talk of a fan split over the movie that on this site only the minority has serious problems with the movie and of that only a minority of them won't see the movie.

true, it is rather enlightening and encouraging

This film isn't for me,seen the spoilers and the vile version of the Enterprise and the trailer,i wasn't paying attention to the trailers at the cinema recently and when the blonde kid almost drove his car of the mountain i was surprised he said his name was James Kirk and the rest is history.I'm wondering if Spock will say judging by the polution content of the atmosphere we have arrived in the latter half of the 23rd century.
I don't think the film will be a hit,Trek isn't mega popular on the big screen, and this is the first Trek film with a brand new cast. And making it darker is a gamble because they will lose some of the original fans.

^ That's the problem in a nutshell.

It's only a problem for those who have a hissy fit over things like the rotation of the bridge or the color of Kirk's eyes. The rest of the world just wants to see a good film. I want to see a good Star Trek film and to me there are artistic liberties that these new guys should be allowed to take, just as every other film and series have been allowed to take.

Well, if the alternate/changed timeline stuff is the real deal I guess it no longer matters how much old canon the movie clings to, does it?

Yes, but if the prerelease material is any indication, the liberties being taken are relatively mild; it's not as the film is positing a world where Kirk is a woman, Vulcans evolved from horses, and the Enterprise is a decahedron made of sentient crystal.
