There's been a lot of talk about the upcoming movie and how people feel about it. Let's face it though, TPTB are happy to get your money regardless of whether you _like_ the movie or not (though, presumably, they hope you'll like it).
There's also been some people who've announced already that they have no intention of seeing the film, in many cases because based on the information they have they don't consider it true to the spirit of Star Trek. Then there's people who feel that way but intend to see the movie regardless.

How do _you_ feel?

See it.

I hung on through Voyager and Enterprise and lackluster The Next Generation films. This probably won't be the best Trek I've seen, nor will it be the worst.

I woke up from a "nap" for this. :)

Also, it's freaky when you post a poll and when you go in to vote about 2 seconds later someone's already gotten to it. (laughs)

Seeing this almost certainly can't be worse than sitting through (a large chunk of) TFF, and I'm running into people excited about the film who I never would have pegged as having an interest in Trek. I'll at least see the movie once, to find out if it deserves the level of interest.

I have serious problems but will probably see it. It's possible I will wait for Blu-Ray and watch it at home.

Well, with more than 10 votes in, only slightly over 7% claim they definitely won't see it, and most think they will. I don't think TPTB have anything to worry about...

I really can't imagine how anyone could call themselves Star Trek fans and not be interested in seeing a movie called "Star Trek".

^There's a portion of the fanbase who believe the new movie isn't "Star Trek" and consequently have no interest.

There's also a decent number of threads where those views are discussed in more detail, so I'd appreciate it if it could be kept out of this one.

18 votes, under 6% don't intend to see the movie. Over 60% have no serious concerns and fully intend to see it.

I voted: "I don't have serious concerns about the movie and fully intend to see it. "

I'm a Trekkie, why wouldn't I?

You missed "I have a few concerns, but plan/don't plan to see it." I think it needs more than just serious concerns/no concerns.

This poll is breaking, so far, like every previous poll: the vast majority, better than 4 out of 5 this time, intend to see the movie.

It appears that, where hard core fans are concerned at least, the studio's decision to have Abrams do this movie is paying paid off.

It's because I am a Trekkie that I have VERY serious doubts about this film and have absolutely no intention of seeing it.

I have no intention of actively participating in the deliberate degradation and destruction of the franchise.

Apparently most people, at least most people on this board who've voted in this poll, feel that this movie won't result in any degradation or destruction of the franchise. I'm pretty sure a good number of them call themselves Trekkies as well.

It would seem that what the franchise is is rather open to debate, especially as there's no Authority in place to define it for us. Some might suggest that in an absence of Authority, what the franchise is should be defined by what the majority would want it to be...

I have some concerns, but as we've only seen a trailer and some second hand descriptions, I'm willing to give it a shot. Bercause I'm an old-school Trekkie and TOS fan, I'm much more interested than if this was to have been another bland TNG film. These characters have an emotional pull for me, and since I'm not hung up on nacelle colors, don't have a chip on my shoulder about their making a film entertaining rather than slavish to the accrued and contradictory continuity, I'm interested in seeing it.

Elsewhere I said that this seems to be reminiscent of a mid-life crisis. No offense to anyone, just the analogy, IMNSHO, seems to fit.

Well, I guess this one's pretty much done at this point...

Almost 50 respondents.
Over 60% have no serious concerns and plan to see the movie.
Under 7% of people don't plan to see the movie.

I think the movie will do just fine.

Whether or not I see it depends entirely on reviews of the movie once it premieres. If people say it's good, I'll be happy to check it out.
