"To Brave the Storm" is awesome!

Sorry for being so late to the party. I'm 13 chapters in, and loving it. It's probably the best in the relaunch series.

I like how Michael Martin toned everything down. "Beneath the Raptor's Wing" was a bit too large in scope for it's own good, I'd say. I like the pacing, especially the
NX-01 patrolling the Gamma Hydra sector, lending a helping hand to every ship that needs it, mending Archer's damaged reputation and getting info on the Romulan activities along the way.

Sadly, Hoshi so far seems to be reduced to an "extra" again, and there's virtually no character development for Malcolm. I don't miss Travis one bit, though. xD

I liked the book as well, but bummed that it is most likely the last Enterprise book we'll be reading for a looong while.

The Romulan War was originally going to be a trilogy, but sales of the first book (Beneath the Raptor's Wing) were lower than expected and plans were changed. Hence so much stuff being compressed into To Brave the Storm.

In Germany, sales of Enterprise novels were so bad that Cult Cross was forced to discontinue translations.

There is post-war flashback in Indistinguishable From Magic, featuring the Intrepid clearing a Romulan minefield and giving the backstory of Mr. Rassmussen (from Next Gen's "A Matter of Time") on Earth. But Enterprise only gets mentioned in passing.

Outlook for more Enterprise books not so good, I'm afraid.

Sad as it may be, we shouldn't be ungrateful. Although... After some consideration, I can't say I'm perfectly happy with the path the relaunch has taken, starting from less then perfect resurrection of Trip. Making him an undercover operative was one of the least believable things they could have done, even though I did manage to suspend my disbelief (with some effort).

And then there's Malcolm. That character really deserved more. A lot more. Talk about wasted potential.

OK, enough ranting, I got a book to finish. :)

. I'm grateful we got a final book to wrap up the Earrth/Romulan wars but I'm also sorry we weren't able to have the story told as originally planned to do in the last 2 novels he originally had plotted out.I' hope we'll get some more Enterprise novels in the future there's alot of untold stories left to tell.
Trip and T'pol finally get their happy ending

It just seems such a shame, given the potential this show had. That the book series fizzled out with the Romulan War told as a string of not especially personal events presented in omnibus record.

In terms of TV seasons, I'm sure writers would've done different adventures. Some connected and building to the war. Some stories virtually nothing to do with it. I guess I'll never be happy with pretty much anything played out in an arena I can't see visually, or even hear in little chunks. Or structured like it had been designed to be episodic.

Some of the events would be space battles, but I always imagined they'd get around the lack of face-to-face conflict, perhaps by exploring the creation of the Remans, or an elaborate conspiracy of silence surrounding the Vulcan likeness, for political reasons connected to Terra Prime. I liked the thought T'Pol might've had a secret Romulan heritage herself too. Lots of little adventures, I might've imagined seeing onscreen in 2006 or 2007, as loads of fans once posted in threads back in the day. Dreaming away episode ideas for Season 5 to their heart's content.

It doesn't matter now, I suppose. I should really re-read the ENT books and satisify whatever kicks I have left for this series, since we're not likely to see this show in comic form or any other way more catered to imagining what might've been, in a more prolonged way.

BTW, I haven't bought a Star Trek novel for a while. I can't say I was particularly an avid reader before ENT came along, or even imagine much of a situation where I'd be tempted to start these days. But I did make an exception for a part of Trek I thought had many more episodes worth of material left, to play catch up with its 7 year plus contemporaries.
