No, this is no racial slur or post. But I have to ask something. I work in retail, and in two days in a row, I had two different African-American ladies try to steal something for next to nothing.
The first customer ripped off a UPC from another item and placed it over the actual item and claimed that was the UPC for the item they were purchasing. At first, I scanned it and noticed it was a different item (the ripped UPC). So I voided it out and ripped off the UPC and scanned the actual price of the box. The customer claimed it was only $9.99 (it was really a $69.99 item) and I said no it wasn't you had another UPC over the actual UPC. Then they didn't want it.
The second time was on day #2. I had a lady bring up a $139.99 item and she said it was too heavy for her to lift out of the cart and she said she ripped out the UPC for me to scan. I said "ok, I still need to see the box. So I went and grabbed the cart and got the actual item out of the cart (it was quite heavy), and rang up the actual item, I didn't even give them the satisfaction of ringing up the UPC they gave me this time. She said she thought it was cheaper then that and ended up not buying the item. After the sales were finished and she left, I scanned the UPC she gave me just to see what it was, and it was an item for like $26.99.
Are people dumb enough to think that cashiers don't know what they are doing and/or can't read? And why do people do this? I only mentioned African-Americans only because I know how a lot of them think they live in a racist country but if they want to prove they can be just as good as the next guy, why go through an attempt and steal something like this? It only discredits the person. I'm sure whites and other races attempt this also, but from my experience I've had mainly African-Americans do it. I had another when I worked for Wal*Mart try to steal a $1,000 TV with the same type of procedures. It amazes me. I'd be too scared to attempt to do something like this myself!
