Magpie, I keep hoping to hear we are getting another novel from you. Any progress on a new book?

I've got seven books under contract ATM - three novels and four nonfiction - but none of them are Trek related.

As for Trek... Haven't heard a peep out of the editor since about July last year, so who knows? The commissioning of IFM was out of the blue, so anything that happens in future probably will be too. But there are pitches from me in there.

Standard By Seven, a book on Blakes 7 for Classic TV Press

Lore Of Kobol: The Big Frakkin Book Of Battlestar for Hasslein books

An as-yet unannounced book for Telos about a certain set of connected shows (they prefer to keep announcements until after the manuscript is finished, rather than when it's commissioned, so they can announce them with publication dates and preorder forms and suchlike)

An as-yet unannounced book for Osprey publishing, about... um, a sort of mix of history and myth. You'll see what I mean when it's announced, which will probably be sometime this week or next

The High-Jump, for Crossroads Press's OCLT series.

And a historical duology, whose first book is titled The Fall Of Grace, and the second book is as-yet untitled.

Yup, I’m a little behind on the Trek Literature Timeline. I got bogged down by another Trek book, but finally finished it. Then moved on to Indistinguishable From Magic. Like a breath of fresh air.

    My thoughts:
Overall, I really, really enjoyed Indistinguishable From Magic. A real page-turner for me. So much so I gave it an “Outstanding” rating. Thank you to the author, David McIntee, for such an entertaining read.
Geordi’s arc was filled with twists and turns and I had no problem with the cavalcade of former guest stars populating the Challenger Adventures. I think the familiar characters helped my brain flow with the quick scenes and snappy dialog (though like other readers, there were a few times I would have appreciated dialog anchors to help me with who was saying what).
I very much enjoyed the characterization of Nog - of all of the characters I felt like he was the most spot on.
I also think a real strength of this book is the return to the Galaxy-class design for the starring ship. Like spending time with an old friend. (though too briefly, as it turned out)

    A couple wishes:
I wish the ending of the book was a bit more satisfying. I wanted to read more about the crew when they returned to the Alpha Quadrant. A lot had been lost, and gained for the crew of the Challenger, and the final chapter or two didn’t have the corresponding gravitas.
After reading through this thread, I wish S&S/CBS would invest in Editorial Leadership that would lead to long-term planning for all of the Post-Destiny Series to work together. I’d be extremely bummed to have now read the character development with Geordi and have it all dis-regarded by the next author.

I would have loved to see him finally leave Enterprise, maybe even become a Captain in the SCE. Woulda made a good series, in my humble opinion. Or alternate books with Geordi and the Da Vinci crew. :bolian:

Just started this this weekend. I'm on the second or third chapter and so far I'm really enjoying it.

    Below average.

A little too much "small universe syndrome" and I never bought Rasmussen's reason for being there.

I have only just started it and am about 100 pages in. I really am not enjoying it so far which is sad. I do hope that I come to enjoy it by the end.

I finished up the book last night. I really enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of Geordi, Guinan, Nog, and Scotty and I thought David McIntee did a great job with all of them. The only issue I had with the book was that I did find the science stuff in the second half a little confusing.
    My rating: Above Average.

One of my favourite Trek books in a long time. I really liked Tyler Hunt too, Trek needs more Mancunians in Space.

Pretty much my feelings as well. I liked the first half more than the second half and I gave it the same rating.

    Yay!

I just wanna see what sort of new cover they come up with!

Oh, and I'm also curious as to what the German for "Gie him the severe Malky" will turn out to be...
