TNG guest star Clyde Kusatsu auditioned for Quark

Clyde Kusatsu (Admiral Nakamura) is interviewed on ST.com. The interviewer knew Kusatsu had auditioned for Quark and asked him.

My agent said, "They're wondering if you're interested in being in makeup for seven years." Like any actor who wants to work, I said, 'I'll do anything for seven years." Armin Shimerman got the role, and I don't really know how close I got. I know I was in the running because they asked me if I'd be willing to be in prosthetics for seven years.

It's easy to say in hindsight but I really can't imagine anyone else playing Quark but Armin Shimerman.

Neither can I. Tim Blake Nelson auditioned for Quark as well; it's a pity the casting department didn't get Nelson for a Ferengi guest role as he seems like a fan of the series.
