I know AI is very much frowned upon, but with how advanced its capabilities are getting, I found these very entertaining, almost scary how close it is getting, and for better or for worse, thought people might want to check it out or give an opinion.

so, no one finds any humor in this at all? no outtage? nothing worth discussing at all? not even how scary that things of this level are possible? has anyone even bothered to click? lol.

Long way from cutting-edge AI. Likenesses are dodgy. The attempt to build a gag around the prompter's apparent inability to maintain visual continuity between shots doesn't work.

i took it as a slightly more meta dig at AI recreations in general. I found a couple of the voices to be insanely on brand, a couple to be rather dodgy myself, and Worf's in particular to be extremely poor.

I found the second part to be a bit more together and a bit more coherent. I'll admit I found the Tellarite at Ops to be a nice surprise for TNG era during a quick cut. The second video felt like it actually did capture some of the TNG spirit.

I found a lot of irony in how the best put together character, in both looks and sounds, IMO was Data, that an AI was... able to recreate the AI character better than the rest. It made me chuckle.

A few months ago I watched a lot of Star Wars AI short films, and a lot of them were very artificial, but one or two of them was downright stunning in how well they turned out. Whether we like it or not, I think we are going to get a lot more of this stuff, and I think that giving credit for proper fidelity or well written segments or well done voiceovers is going to end up being a little more nuanced than dismissing everything as AI slop.

Appreciated your opinion.

nothing worth discussing at all?
For me, even without it being Ai I probably wouldn't watch them because I try to avoid obvious "clickbait" style thumbnails. Who is the guy in the Pickle Rick t-shirt? It's a guy in a Pickle Rick t-shirt.
What is this thing that got pixelated? I don't care enough to find out.

Add on to that the Ai-ness of it all and it's an easy pass.

I held my tongue before, but seeing as you asked. ;)

Fair enough.

The concept actually intrigued me a bit; Q brings in pickle-rick-guy from a universe in the multi-verse, and lets the crew know that in one of the worlds, they are just characters on a TV show. Its a kind of fun exchange. Then the second video is the fall out of the revelation, and how different characters are reacting to the concept. Its honestly pretty fun. The pixelated thing is a gag related to TV censorship. Worf is so offended by the thought of being watched that he decides to wear some x rated Klingon garb to make sure the censors will never show him again. Lol. Data makes the joke that Commander Riker will definitely want to borrow that. Its all very light hearted but fun in a surreal way.

The videos are better than the thumbnails would imply.

Its not like I made the things, so I'm not bothered by bad opinions. I just thought that it was all an interesting enough combo (concept, level of AI progression) that it might be worth a conversation.

I watched them. They were a lot better than I thought they would be. I chuckled a few times. The AI is getting scarily good at doing this kind of stuff, so much so that I wouldn't classify it as immediate "slop." There is a cohesive narrative and the creator used tools at his disposal, namely AI, to edit this together for us to watch. The ethics, legality for the companies, and just the morality of doing this kind of production using real actor likenesses are going to be argued for years to come.

I'm wondering if the likenesses fall into a gray area like parody and satire does, or if its like fan films where until one gets big enough, long enough or complete enough, its under the radar and not worth the trouble. When a full length episode or movie is produced this way, thats when we are going to really find out how this is going to turn out, and something tells me Star Wars creators/Disney is going to figure it out long before we do. My algorithms must have shifted because I haven't seen any lately, but a few months ago, there seemed to be movie quality Star Wars shorts coming out on a regular basis, unless they already got shut down?

You had a very similar reaction to my own, and why I thought it was worth a conversation here. The end of the second part, with Picard, Data and the Ambassador, was so TNG in tone I couldn't believe it.

The second part was better put together than the first one but I will admit had you not prompted us a second time in this thread I would not have watched them. Like Tosk said earlier the AI thumbnail is a thumbs down for me. It all looks like the same "slop." It's a pass from me usually, the opposite of the intent.

And now the second video has a new title and Ai thumbnail. Trying to chase the numbers they got on the first video, in my cynical opinion. ;)

can't be any worse than the original one with the censored blob. i didn't know you could change all of that stuff after it was posted! at least it is better representative of what the video is now?

I re-read the fan film terms from the Star Trek official website. Right now Ai likeness is not a violation of any of the terms covered, but I'm guessing the more these are made....all it's gonna take is for one to become viral enough to get the attention of Paramount/CBS and they'll probably revise the terms to include Ai.

this one is just a very thoughtfully done take on the mental aftermath of the Inner Life.

This is getting scary good.
