TNG: A Klingon Challenge

Kords21

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Anyone else remember this game? I actually have it on the shelf, haven't played it in ages. I came across this video on youtube:

The commentary from the players is quite comical.

For those who don't know what it is. It's a Video interactive board game. Where a Klingon named Kavok takes over the Enterprise and wants to use it to start a war between the Federation and the Empire. Players have an hour to collect isoliner chips and a phaser to stop him. With the right people and drinks from Quark's recipies it could be quite fun.

I never played it, but I remember wanting it when I was a kid. Watching that vid I do have one question. Is that gowron?

It's the same actor that plays Gowron. I guess you could always say it's his long lost brother and he's pissed that Gowron is getting all the glory or something.

Just like Gul Macet is Gul Dukats... what was it everyone said? cousin?

In the DS9 relaunch novels Gul Macet is supposed to be Dukat's cousin. I thought he was used rather nicely in the relaunch. Back to A Klingon Challenge though, I imagine with the right people this is a pretty fun game, maybe not too much for the replayability but nice for a few times around or every once in a while. You can actually find it pretty cheaply on Ebay still. I was reading somewhere that they had wanted to release a second VCR interactive game with Q, but it didn't get off the ground as far as I know.

I have it and every once in a while I will get it out and mess around with it for a little bit. My parents bought it for me as a birthday gift when I was younger.

The character is not Gowron and is explained to be a Klingon Warrior who's angry over the Federation and Klingons being allies when the Empire should conquer the Federation. You take on the role of an officer who was part of the Enterprise's repair team while it was at a Starbase. Everyone but your team was off the ship at the time it was launched. If you fail to stop Kavok, who begins in engineering then later beams to the bridge, the Enterprise reaches Klingon Space and is destroyed by a squadron of Birds of Prey (plays the Cause and Effect Enterprise destruction). You can then restart the tape after it tells you that you've entered a temporal vortex and get to try again. Pretty clever I'd say.

But not a bad game.
