TMP on HBO Family

Last evening I enjoyed watching TMP that I recorded off HBO Family. I am wondering if anyone knows if this was the original theatrical release? It has been such a long time I had seen the actual theatrical release - it has probably been since 1979! I bought the extended version on VHS years ago, watched the ABC version and own the directors cut. I can't remember this one.

That said, I have to say I enjoyed it. I've been watching a lot of TOS recently and it played so well as a continuation of the series.

I don't deny it's slow in many, many spots. But when you get past that it wasn't Star Wars, it's a great movie in it's own right.

If the scene of Billy Van Zandt's yellow-eyed Rhaandarite ensign defending Will Decker - and being reprimanded by Uhura - was missing, it's the theatrical cut.

If Kirk left the (unfinished) ship in one helmet and returned in a different one, it's the Special Longer Version. Those Paramount soundstage rafters are unmissable.

All of the ones being shown on HBO Family are the theatrical cuts. They have shown TMP, TWOK, TVH, TFF, and TUC multiple times in the last week. They have been showing TMP and TWOK, and TFF and TUC as "double features" a lot as well.
