TMP crowd - 3 guys with rectangular badges

In the TMP scene on the rec deck where the crew is watching the Epsilon 9 broadcast, I noticed 3 guys in the crowd who didn't have the usual delta insignia, but a silvery rectangular badge. They're all next to each other, white uniform with silver (maybe greenish?) tabs: a Vulcan male, a silver-haired white male, and a tall black male.

All three badges seem to be different. I've never noticed this before, and I couldn't find any mention of these badges in the usual places. Anyone have any more info (or speculation even) about what these badges are supposed to represent?

I've noticed those too but never read anything about them. My WAG is that they are civilian technicians who were working on the refit job, though I don't know how that fits with the color on the tabs, my color-blindness letting me down again!

TMP uniforms were not wholly consistent. There were CPOs and officers who were missing rank insignia but these badges are quite specific.

They look like radiation sensors or something but all three are part of the medical department so that seems unlikely. Possibly biohazard detectors?

Ah, medical department. Well then, how about civilian medical technicians who love to change things while they're redesigning the whole sickbay.

Yeah, she looks really stoned in that shot. Since she looks normal in the other screencaps, I guess this one just caught her in mid-blink.

Aren't two of the guys James Doohan's sons? I'm thinking the mustachioed guy in brown on the left and the baby-faced guy in tan next to the stoned lady.

Those were the division colors, expanded from those of TOS.

I always wondered if green should have been for Life Sciences rather than medical because there seems to be an awful lot of medical staff for 400 people .

Nope they just look bloody awful. Lack of color particularly on the bridge didn't help TMP
