Titan question - Sariel Rager

James Swallow

Writer
Captain
A question about the character of Sariel Rager for the group mind...

As noted over at Memory Alpha -
In Death in Winter Rager continues serving on the Enterprise and later Enterprise-E as helmsman until the Battle of the Bassen Rift. After which, she is promoted to Lieutenant Commander and takes a post as second officer aboard the USS Hedderjin.
Contradictorily, the Star Trek: Titan book series, has Rager transferring to the USS Titan with Captain Riker, also after the battle of the Bassen Rift, although still a Lieutenant.

Has Rager's posting on either ship been confirmed in any book post-Death in Winter/Taking Wing?

Rager remains part of the Titan crew as a Lieutenant. This part of the DiW continuity has been overridden in the current shared TrekLit continuity.

Maybe there could be a NF type retcon done when Lefler was promoted, demoted and repromoted, or when Shelby thought she had been made captain but it was somebody else.

Is it my imagination, or are there numerous bits of Death in Winter which seem to have been sidelined or contradicted?

Can't think of any specifics right at this second.

The very brief Rager scene in DiW is the only part I can think of that raises any continuity issues, and it's easily fixed just by substituting someone else's name for Rager's.

Fair enough, it's been a long while since I read it. I just thought there were others, must be thinking of one of the two hundred plus books I've read since then.

Lol, nice one, Marco. But I meant an in-universe one like the explanations for Lefler and Shelby.

Continuity goofs from DiW? Worf meets Janeway in this book, on the E-E.

In Resistance, it is written that Worf has never met Janeway at all. I believe it's when he's about to come up with his super saucer-separation/cloaking/speed-run plan.

Then there's the portrayal of the tragedy on Arvada III which if I recall is inconsistent with the previous way it is referred to by Vaughn in Avatar.

And after checking Memory Beta, yeah... Vaughn bore witness to a genocidal holocaust on Arvada III while DiW established the tragedy as a plague outbreak.

Not entirely implausible that it could be fixed into one event, but there's no attempt thus far that I've seen, and they don't seem to be talking about the same event when read side by side.
If someone released the plague genetically targetted to a specific group of people, then it could be classified as a genocidal holocaust.

They could easily have been two different events. I mean, why assume there can be only one tragedy in the entire history of a given planet? How many tragedies has Earth suffered in the last eight years alone? Avatar doesn't specify the date of the genocide on Arvada III, so there's no reason to assume it's the same event.

In the A Time to... books, Beverly was leaving the E-E to take the place of a doctor of a certain name at Starfleet Medical, and DiW has her replacing somebody else entirely. (I don't remember either name, only that they were diferent...)

Dr. Yerbi Fandau was the head of Starfleet Medical who approached Bev to succeed him in that position upon his retirement.
