In today's press release about script writer Steven Moffat's succession as Doctor Who's lead writer and executive producer, Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings) and Thomas Sangster (Doctor Who, Love, Actually) are revealed to star in the upcoming Tintin film trilogy. As already revealed, Steven Moffat will be writing the three screenplays (he just turned in the first one) with Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson executive producing and taking turns as directors.

I think it's safe to say that Thomas Sangster will play Tintin and I highly suspect that Andy Serkis will play Captain Haddock (which is brilliant).

Damn, the more I read about this trilogy, the more excited I get. I haven't been this excited about any film project since the Lord of the Rings! :D

Serkis will certainly play Haddock although personally I wish it was Jean Reno.

I can't quite see Jean Reno playing a gruff seadog. We already know Serkis can do that in spades.

So who's going to play the Thompson twins? And professor Calculus?

I'm interested to see what snowy will look like. Has there been any word of which stories will be adapted?

Always imagined Haddock having a gruff English accent. Never imagined him with a French accent, but I suppose it could work.

We don't know yet, but whoever they cast as the Thom(p)son twins, I hope they're separate actors (not necessarily twins themselves) and not a split screen effect.

I'm more curious to know if Snowy will be speaking (but not necessarily heard by Tintin and company).

Only rumors and speculation thus far. I doubt we'll know anytime soon.

Two years on and we know the first film'll be Secret of the Unicorn, but still not one darn official still/artwork/anything, and shooting has wrapped but the release is a year away... :klingon:

just out of curiosity the last I heard was that it's gonna be cg with simon pegg and nick frost as the twins. Was this some bogus rumour going around or what?

I just hope it opens with a loud voice declaiming that it's "Herggge'sss adventuressss offf Tintin!"

Wow, I'm surprised to see this thread revived from the dead.

While I'm still excited about these films, I'm a bit more wary than I was two years ago. I don't like the fact that Spielberg has added two characters to the Red Rachkam portion of the story seem to be intended as comedy relief (Mackenzie Cook's and Daniel Mays' characters). I'm also disappointed that Thomas Sangster had to drop out due to delays in the filming, but Jamie Bell should be a fine replacement.

Nonetheless, I can't wait. Hopefully we'll see some artwork sometime soon.
