I've seen it twice now, and I'm a little fuzzy as to when things happen prior to the 3 years later thingy.
Prior to the 3 years later, we see spock rejecting the vulcan science academy and then we cut to the bar fight and kirk signing up. but then 3 years later, kirk reprograms the kobiyashi maru that spock has been programming for 4 years already, which means he would have had to be in starfleet longer than that to have become an officer and then teacher.
so the shot of amanda fixing his collar, how old was spock supposed to be? There is no mention of when he was born, but it seems that both kirk and spock were around the same age, judging by the jumps from iowa to vulcan.
I was just wondering if anyone thought of that, or has an explanation.
