Time Travel in the new Trek movie I've been hearing about

Spoilers, I guess.....

Hi there, I just heard that there's some sort of new Star Trek movie and I'm just curious as to what people think about the time travel aspect of this film.

I hear Spock's going back in time to save the day. What's up with that?

Does time travel bug you? Does it cheapen the very foundations of what we've all come to believe in? Does it make any solution seem to have an easy answer? Do these pants make me look fat? Can it be pulled off without irreversable consequences? Wasn't Chekov on the show later than the others? Why would they even let a Russian on board? Are you sick of time travel in Trek? Doesn't it leave way many more loose ends to tie up, ie. plot holes?

Please answer my questions, I'm new to this forum and it's strange and unfamiliar.

Oh yeah and Eric Bana is kick ass. I hope he wins, just like he did in Munich.

Do you have evidence that time travel will be in this movie?

Internet sites specualting as such, so pretty much it's rock solid.

Re: Time Travel in the new Trek movie I've been hearing abou

Time Travel sucks. I wish it wasn't in this movie as everyone seems to be speculating. I wish it was a simple prequel without the handoff aspect. If they wanted to do a handoff then the most famous actor out of TOS- Shatner should've been involved. I can't think of a way they could do it without making the story suck, but then that's because everything I think of involves Time travel which is asinine, so if they're doing that they should throw the Shat in as well. I hope with all my heart it succeeds even if it sucks because otherwise trek is dead.

Worked well in First Contact, and Yesterday's Enterprise where history was changed but changed back again.

I have no issue witht the time travel aspect. If they do it right, there should be minimal reason for concern. :bolian:

Well, someone's got to do it. Might as well be Spock.

Does time travel bug you?

Only when I accidentally erase the timeline I just left.

See previous answer.

Does it make any solution seem to have an easy answer?

No.

Do these pants make me look fat?

Yes.

Can it be pulled off without irreversable consequences?

No. The very act of travelling through time creates an alternate timeline - one where the traveller travelled in time, and one where they didn't. There are always irreversable consequences to time travel.

Wasn't Chekov on the show later than the others?

In at least one timeline, yes.

Why would they even let a Russian on board?

They've got to have somebody to make fun of.

Are you sick of time travel in Trek?

No.

Doesn't it leave way many more loose ends to tie up, ie. plot holes?

Depends.

wait--is the OP joking? A TrekBBS admin who doesn't know about the new movie? Am I in an alternate universe here?

Re: Time Travel in the new Trek movie I've been hearing abou

I'd imagine there is some slight tongue in cheekiness going on. ;)

Though it is Garak, and he does seem to live in his own little world...hmmm...

No, I'd guess he's super serious.

Re: Time Travel in the new Trek movie I've been hearing abou

I don't think there should be any sci-fi plot contrivances whatsoever..

They've all been done way to many times in Modern Trek. TOS never used them.. The writers are all a bunch of hacks if they try to rip off TOS in any way shape or form and they should be strictly true to the modern military and have proper rank and protocol. I will sooooo boycott this film if they don't salute their superiors the right way.

I believe he is being rhetorical -- as in he wants to open up rhetorical dialogue concerning the idea of time travel in this film.

Either that or he's a complete loon.

^ Perhaps, but this topic has been discussed here ad infinitum. Just seems odd. *shrug*.

Re: Time Travel in the new Trek movie I've been hearing abou

I'm going to guess that as a bookend to the pilot for Trek, that instead of traditional time travel, we are going to get a taste of Talos IV.

Re: Time Travel in the new Trek movie I've been hearing abou

As they are big TNG fans, perhaps it will be something like "All Good Things".

I have a feeling that's the point.

Why wouldnt they, its not like the film is set on an American ship at the height of the cold war

I found it doesn't help to blame the clothes.

The amount of fat has a direct bearing on whether the pants can be pulled off without said consequences.

Newbies! You don't take a couple of minutes to scroll through the list of topics to familiarize yourself with the forum before diving right in and adding what is probably the 159th thread about time travel in the last two months. Quit clogging up the forum with redundant topics! A moderator should act on this. :D :p ;) and
