So if Shatner were to make an appearance in the sequel, would it be safe to assume it wouldn't be TOS/ movie era Kirk now?

Unless Starfleet makes a ship that can traverse alternate timelines, Old Kirk would be just be an older version of the numb longue Kirk

And what about young Spock?

Lets say Vulcan 2.0 is well established in the future. Would history loop itself and now we get AU Spock going back in time?

Not if Shatner zooms around a Sun really fast and travels back in time to before Nero's arrival in the new timeline.

Hmmmm yes... they could call it the Relativity.

Future versions of Kirk, Spock, Chekov, Uhura, and Sulu (played by Shatner, Nimoy, Koenig, etc.) from the new timeline should go back in time and interact with their younger selves. In doing so they create a new timeline. Then in the *next* sequel after that, future versions of the characters from the timeline created in the second movie do that again...going back in time to interact with their younger selves.

They keep doing this in every movie of the franchise for the indefinite future, so long as any of the original cast are still alive.

Actually, no. That's a terrible idea. Paramount, please don't listen to anything I say.
