Tim Brooke Taylor

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Died at 78, due to Coronavirus. Will need no introduction to anyone who knows The Goodies or ...Clue, but to those who don't, he wrote the Four Yorkshiremen sketch that Monty Python adopted into their stage shows.

"The Goodies" played on PBS stations in the US for quite some years (way back) and was typically silly English Comedy.

Also quite barbed... a lot of episodes can't be reshown because the celebrities they attacked have since been posthumously revealed to be guilty, or if alive jailed, for sex crimes, making even hostile jokes about them toxic.

my dad once described them as combining the sublime with ridiculous and making it funny.

rolf harris was referenced by them on a number of occasions and so those episodes wouldn't fly (nor would their black and white ministrels references in one epsiode).

But then there is the one with John LeMessurer running a farm with a control room that just happened to resemble the bridge of a certain starship :)

South Africa: a no holds barred attack on apartheid (apparently the BBC insisted on reshoots to tone it down), which is also racist (black-face, Sambo, etc).
A real case of heart in the right place, ahead of time, but presentation now seems awful.

Me and My Girl was terrible.

I kept thinking, c'mon Tim, open her up, crank this fuck## up to 11 already.

The Goodies were so much a part of my childhood, but I always had a soft spot for Tim, especially since we supported the same football team :(
