Tickets on sale?

Now I'm pretty new to this whole 'movie premier' deal where people stand in line for hours or even camp out for days to get the first tickets for a movie. I've never done that before, the closest I've come is going to see the POTC3 premier (somewhat disappointing, but that's a subject for another day).

Perhaps I can get some advice from one of you guys:
How would I go about securing tickets for the opening night of Star Trek XI, assuming that it will sell out?
When do theatres typically start selling advance tickets for a movie?

Huge, huge assumption that it will sell out. I mean... when was the last movie that sold out on a large scale (especially on Christmas Day)? Star Wars Episode I, maybe?

That said... Fandango? I don't really know this stuff. In fact, when you get right down to it, I have very little justification for this post except to crush your dreams of a sellout crowd and trying to boost my post rank.

At least in this country, you can often get advance screening tickets at the door, even for popular and anticipated movies. I did for The Matrix Reloaded and The Simpsons Movie, for example.
However I've heard cinemas in general are more popular in the US, so this may not apply to you.

By the way, is Xmas day an international release date? any word on that yet?

I sincerely doubt it will sell out, and even if you want to get advanced tickets, a few hours ahead of time should probably be good enough.

You can also usually order tickets online and pick them up at the theater.

^ So I don't have to continue waiting at the theater?

I can go home and come back to the theater in December?

Nice try guys.

^I can't really tell your tone, so I have no idea what point you just tried to make.

If you're concerned about getting tickets for opening day, you can either buy them a few days in advance, a few hours in advance, or purchase them online the day of the show and pick them up.

Although I really don't know why we're worried about this right now. The movie is a year away. Even with the biggest releases I've seen (Star Wars and Titanic ring a bell) a couple days in advance is the most time you should need.

Mostly I just wanna be the 'first kid on the block' so to speak to have my tickets. I doubt I'll have to do any camping or anything like that.

Thanks for the reality check, though ;)

PEOPLE STILL STAND IN LINE FOR MOVIES ? REALLY ?

This is the 21st century you can order your tickes days even weeks ahead ONLINE, you ever heard of this wonderful invention called "The Internet" yes ?

Who stands in line for tickets anymore?

I laugh at people standing at NFL ticket windows, camped out trying to get their seats.

Dude get high speed and get them online at 10am like every other 21st century ticket purchaser.

As for Trek, really lets leave that stuff to the Star Wars fanatics.

Boxing day for us, dude. Check out the trailer at Empire - it says "BOXING DAY 2008" at the end.

Ok so when do theatres here in the US typically start selling tickets for a Christmas-premiering movie?

I like getting tickets a day or two before seeing a movie because it saves time. I can o right into the theater without standing in a line for 5 minutes to get tickets.
