Three Years Of Starscream: A Celebration

I'll post in a Lounge!

Thanks for bumping the thread, @Kitty, it means I don't have to come up with something clever, I can just say "Thanks for bumping the thread, @Kitty, it means I don't have to come up with something clever" instead.

26 years on the board.
23 years of this thread.
I no longer recognise the person who made the opening post. I made it "in character" as a comically deluded TrekBBS poster, so was that really me who made the post? Who even was Starscream? I can't seem to be able to access his memory engrams anymore. CaptainWacky was always a character, really, so how can I say anything he posted was ever real? Have I ever even really been on this message board? Was there ever an honest moment in 26 years? I have the memories of feelings I experienced here, but am I remembering the feeling or just remembering that fact that I once believed I felt the feeling? Sometimes you don't know you felt something until it's gone. Some day we'll all be gone. Some day, all of this, deleted, with no one left to remember.

Looking forward to 26 more years here!!!!!!!!:biggrin::biggrin:

Maybe we'll be rewarded by aliens who are monitoring our internet from space and are impressed by people who have been on a message board for a really long time.

At 26 years one could still be considered a twink if they keep themselves limber...

SO DON'T SWEAT IT!

Two more generations of Trek content have appeared while this thread has been open...

I bet some of it was even good!

When this thread was opened:

  • We were waiting for Lord of the Rings Return of the King to finally finish the greatest film triology ever
  • Finding Nemo was about to take over cinemas and every kid would soon be quoting it
  • Tom from MySpace was our friend, Mark Zuckberg was still in college working on TheFaceook
  • MSN Messenger and AIM ruled the roost when it came to instant messengers
  • The Nokia 1100 was the best selling cellphone, the N-Gage for playing games on the move and the Palm Treo 600 if you wanted to flex
    • If you wanted to be cool though, the rumoured iPod Mini was in the offing and would come out early in the following year in all kinds of pretty colours
  • On the PC we were all playing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City which was somewhere between GTA3 and GTA4. Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire came out on the Game Boy Advance but the PS2 was still winning the console war
  • The Bucaneers defeated Raiders 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII
    • Shania Twain, No Doubt, and Sting did the half time show
  • Andrei Agassi won his last grand slam in Australia
  • Fo shizzle, bling and crunk were completely normal things to say
  • Internet Explorer 6 dominated the internet, and every website was “best viewed in 1024x768”
  • Google Maps didn't exist yet, so we had to actually get directions to find our friends houses
  • Wikipedia had about 300,000 articles - it now has 64 million
  • Friends was still on air, and its finale hadn’t emotionally destroyed everyone yet
