I know this is very obvious to people who have read the books and meaningless nonsense to those who haven't, I figured I might as well post it anyway.
Three Vampire Courts
The Dresden Files books by Jim Butcher
In Jim Butcher's books, there are three "courts" of vampires.
The Red Court of Vampires drinks blood to survive. They are not really humans; they are bat-monsters wearing a flesh mask so they can come closer to their victims. However, once bitten, victims are not entirely vampires until they give in to their bloodlust.
The White Court exists by feeding off of the lust in people, usually through sex. Although not as strong as other types of vampires, they don't possess most vampire weaknesses either- holy articles and sunlight for example. Only objects that signify true love, like a rose given from one lover to another, are guaranteed to do grave damage on contact.
The Black Court feeds off of the fear in people. Although neither as convincingly human-looking as the Red Court or as durable as the White Court, this variety is simply the most terrifying- good for the way they feed.
