Why is the Gorn holding a type II hand phaser? Did the designers actually WATCH "Arena?"

That's a bit of a "call back" to the "Gorn" figure of the mid 70s. As jokingly stated above, to save costs, Mego simply dressed a Spiderman "Lizard" figure in the same clothing fitted upon the Klingon, which was originally used in Mego's "Planet of the Apes" line. You reduce costs even more, the Klingon was simply given a phaser and communicator in red *whereas the Starfleet figures had powder blue field gear. I can't remember for certain, but I think the "Lizard as Gorn" figure was also given the red accessories.

Because it's made of red licorice* and the action figure will also double for the new board game, "Hungry Hungry Gorn"? :D

But, what Redfern said is the genuine reason. :)

* not edible, children under the age of 150 should not partake. It's probably not BPA-free plastic.

Spot on. The Gorn had the red phaser and communicator.

That's what happens when they're not allowed a balanced diet of minerals, leafs, and meaty humans.

At least the new figures glow healthily under ultraviolet light...

Perhaps he/she has intentionally slimmed down over the years. He didn't want to end up like Shatner, essentially.

Why is Kirk in his green wraparound uniform rather than his yellow one? If I bought those figures I wouldn't be able to play Arena with them would I!!! :wah:

OK I love me a bit of glow-in-the-dark,
But why can't I see Spock with the tribbles? Is it there and I've gone blind? Or is it dementia setting in? :).
