Thought out..TREK

Its been a year since I have been in this forum...so..hello again..

If there is to ever be a new series (and I hope there isn't) but if there must be a series because life just can't go on without one? Then they need to do something different with scope...kind of like one of my story ideas, which I wont mention by title here...but here it goes..

The first two seasons introduces us to a period of time when the first Starships are beling planned and built. NO ALIENS. I repeat..NO ALIENS. The politics of each country's contribution to the concept of a Starship, and the backdoor battles as to what that first starship crew will look like. This could take place on Mars where its being built, and on Earth...Phase One (hint) will end with the launch of the damn ship...

In the third season, we skip ahead to five years in the future. (Phase two) Our primary crew (the ones we saw come together at the end of the first phase) are pretty much the same, with a few differences (explained in stories)...the next two years will follow the ship as it explores local star systems. There is absolutely no hints of aliens until a very tramatic first contact with the klingons towards the end of the forth season of the show...

The final phase, ten years later, has remnants of our original cast of characters and the Earth's applying to join the Federation...while still exploring, dealing with klingons and even romulans...then the final episode has us joining the Federation and sets up for a ..ta da...MOVIE!!!

six years..two years per phase..then a movie in year seven...

thats what they should do..I know, because Gumby told me this...

Is this in the canonverse or the JJverse, 'cause in the canonverse you'd have to ignore that whole "Zephram Cochrane met the Vulcans after first flight" thing. The JJverse might let you get away with it.

Getting rid of the trek cannon was the best thing he did....i would, in essense, start all over....

Yep..burn down the house..

I just posted this so I might as well cut n paste. ;)

The only reason anyone would be interested in putting Star Trek on TV would be to capitalize on the success of the movies, so the show would be in the Abramsverse, in the 23rd C, would not stray far from the Starfleet-going-boldly template, and would bring in the movie actors for cameos at least (I doubt they could get them to do more).

Since the timeline doesn't require the cast to stay on the Enterprise, you could see someone like John Cho's Sulu as a regular on the show (assuming FlashForward's ratings don't hold up.)

I would SORT of support this idea..instead of a series, I would do TWO made-for-TV movie of the weeks between each movie....in the Abramuniverse....perhaps to show past events (the klingon's in Romulan prison) or augment support stuff (with out any of the main cast in it...at all)....

Thats the only way I would touch this, and only JJ was involved...

I agree...the biggest problem with TREK was there was just TOO MUCH of it. Books, comics, TV series, movies, spin-offs, audiobooks...yikes! Starting from scratch would be a bang up idea!

I still think, though, if ever there was a new TV series, it should be set in the 23rd Century. That way, you can still kick a guest starring role to one of the original cast members.

It'd be really cool if Shatner's Kirk met Pines' Kirk, ala the two Spocks in Abrams version...

Doesn't sound like a viable business proposition. They'd have to assemble the cast, writers and crew, create the sets, etc - all that expense would need to be amortized over a longer series run than just a couple of two-hour shots.

Star Trek's premise is ideal for the long format of a TV series, where you can develop characters and plotlines, and add more detail to the complex Star Trek cosmos. Short-format movies and TV movies will always be frustrating and won't come anywhere close to doing the material justice.

Nope. It's biggest problem - only real problem - is that the DS9 writers & producers didn't take over the franchise when DS9 ended and instead it was handed off to hacks who did nothing interesting with it.

Now it's back in the hands of people who know what they're doing. Why couldn't they find other people who can extend that philosophy into the TV realm? Abrams doesn't have to babysit the TV series, just spell out the ground rules and make sure the people running things understand the common elements that made TOS, DS9 and Trek XI work.

Think of the diverse people involved in all those; what makes Trek work obviously isn't just limited to certain writers or producers, but rather can be handed off to a whole new crew.

Or PINE finds out that TJ HOOKER is his great grand-dad!! I'd pay to see that!!!

First ground rule: no fanboy nonsense like that. :rommie:

Temis, I truely believe what killed TREK was too much of it. 600+ hours is called over kill...if you put it all together (3yrs-7yrs-7rs-7rs-4yrs-) that adds up to 28+ seasons of TREK.

Overkill..more than anything else...killed TREK. The stars (Stewart-Shatner-Nimoy and Spiner) have all hinted at it, as has Moore and Braga and Berman. That is the one thing they all agree on..TOO MUCH trek..and I agree..

No new show..period...TREK has graduated to the big leagues. Let it stay there.

I could do with maybe a few made for TV spin offs, concentrating on Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians & other species, but I am quite happy to see at least another decade pass before we start a new trek series. Maybe after 3-4 JJverse films are in the can.

Star Trek XI had a heart, had optimism, and did things that were epic, harldy what I would call braindead!
When?

Also, casually destroying planets and stars isn't epic.

The movie was good...it was hip..and was fun...and thats all that matters, thank God, to the viewing public and Paramount. These on-going attacks on that movie are a bit too much. But, no matter, those who don't like the movie, these so called TREk fans, are just casualties that Paramont (and I,) are willing to accept....
