Those combination grill/griddles that you.....

can put over burners on your stove. I'm thinking about getting one. Any one have one of those? Does it work well?

I've had a couple: One cast iron, one aluminum. The cast-iron one was far superior. As for how well they work, good but not great; easy to burn food if you aren't careful.

Get the thickest one you can afford, or be prepared for uneven heat. I've used these on electric burners, gas stoves, and turkey fryers with moderate success if you plan your cooking to match the size of the heated area under the burner and don't plan on the entire surface to be heated to the same temp.

I have an iron one, and I love it. However, I used to not love it when I had an electric stove. Now that I have a gas stove, it works really well.
