This one flew under my Radar.....New "Hard" Sci-Fi Film.

Tribble puncher

Captain
Captain
The film is called "Europa Report" it is a "found footage" film...About a privately funded (like virgin galactic or SpaceX) mission to Europa. (better than Apollo 18 though) Here is a trailer:

Thought I would start a Thread for this film. I'll Post my thoughts here in a couple of days...my opinions are really mixed.

After watching the trailer all I can think of is: "Oh my god it's full of stars." [wink]

It's quite entertaining.
Really liked how they actually made an honest effort to recreate the atmosphere of an actual research project instead of what you'd usually get in a movie like this.

You're right, Christopher. Though it does seem like they're touching on many of the same themes, and the fan-made trailer does make many links to it. Even the first trailer has a sort of 2001 vibe to it, wether that's intentional or not.

^I doubt one can make a movie about an expedition to Jupiter without being aware of 2001 looming over everything one does. But aside from that, 2001 and 2010 were two of the few space films ever made that strove for a realistic portrayal of space travel, and Europa Report is another. So inevitably there are going to be some similarities.

Very true. And we can always use more, which is why I'll be looking forward to this.

That looks really good. I just added it to my Netflix queue.

TWC is offering this on demand right now, "before in theater." I have considered watching it but after it was out. Now with it already available on demand, I may watch it sooner.

I REALLY wanted to like this film. But the "Found Footage Style of the movie didn't work for me, the pacing managed to be somehow slow and jumpy, don't know how in the hell they managed to pull that off.
