This may not entirely save the joke

But here are a few examples of money in the 24th century. Unfortunately, a lot of them are on the series that doesn't trek, which is DS9. There's the episode they might've called The Most Toys where a guy abducts Data and has many things that some might consider valuable like an old baseball card. How can the card have any value if there's no money or anything someone can buy it with? What about gold-pressed latinum? Was I supposed to make the joke too wordy by saying all that? I know this is a book example that happened in Warchild that said Jake spent a lot of his time and allowance at a snack bar. Allowance of what? In the only Q episode of DS9 (there should've been more), with that had that girl that Picard had met on a shore leave, she said that she'd always take profit given the choice between that or something else. Finally, when Ben wanted Jake to have a job working for O'Brien, had he planned to discipline him if he wouldn't have wanted to bad enough to consider rebelling; or was there some sort of motivation that O'Brien might've given him? The only bad thing I can think of is that the good news did nothing to help the circumstances.
God bless, Jason Irelan

The simple fact is that we know the 24th Century has various types of currency, and that everyone uses it. There's countless examples of it throughout each series. Humans just don't seem to value it as much as they used to, particularly since they have access to personal replicators and similar technologies. But they do still possess it, and they still use it particularly when dealing with other species or cultures.

Instead, pride and esteem seem to be much more valuable to them, explaining why they still try to achieve better positions in society.

However, no one wants to be the janitor, but someone still has to do that sort of stuff. And it's completely unreasonable to think that they do it out of the kindness of their heart or for the prestige that comes with it. No, the only reasonable answer is that they, like everyone else, still gets paid. It may not be physical currency like what we're used to, but they're getting compensated in some fashion -- credits, replicator rations, transporter passes, whatever it is it still counts as currency.

Not caring about it and not having it are completely separate things, though. And the only way to rationalize it is that every time someone has said that Humanity has gotten rid of the need for money, they're talking more about the desire to have it, not its actual existence. Especially since, again, we know for a fact that they do have and use it.

Okay, let's review:

You opened a nonsensical thread about money and Geico commercials, here:

http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/trek-joke.280478/

Which I closed.

Then you opened another thread, here:

http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/can-we-reopen-the-the-trek-joke-thread-for-the-sake-of-the-one-who-ruined-it-please.280563/

Which I also closed, AND asked you not to do it again.

And now...here we are.

This new thread makes about as much sense as the first two. If by any remote chance you really wanted to talk about money in Star Trek, I pointed you to current thread about that.

I've been patient and polite, and that hasn't worked. You've now earned an infraction for spamming. Comments to PM.

DO NOT start another thread like this again.
