This is the coolest movie of the year... [film's dedication]

Re: This is the coolest movie of the year...

Why do I get the feeling they did it to help smooth over any potential whining about the terrorism plot point?

Terrorism has been around for a long time, long before 9-11. So why should it have anything to do with Terrorism. If anything isn't it more about those who protect and fight for our Freedoms?

Yeah, I know. The filmmakers are the ones dedicating it to 9/11 vets, not me. And they may very well have done it purely to be nice.

Despite my earlier post, I have no strong opinion on the matter.

I was sitting next to a U.S. Marine in the theater. He loved the movie, and when he saw the dedication, I saw a tear in his eye. Hardcore Trek fan, too. Great to talk to before the movie started.

Does seem like pandering to pre-empt the usual idiocy of the mass media that loves to take things out of context.

I just wonder who Kirk and Spock were four years back when they wasted Nero and to hell with the orders....

Kirk says to Nero in ST09 that he is willing to help evacuate both him and his crew from his stricken vessel, to which Nero replies he'd rather watch Romulus die 1000x than accept his help.

I saw the film at the Navy base I'm stationed at in Japan and there were a few cheers from the audience, although most people had already left or on their way out (and not looking at the screen).

Okay I stayed until the very end for a third time last night, only this time I looked very hard for this dedication and it was not anywhere to be seen. So maybe it's only in the US release?

Well, when it comes to 9/11, it's very poignant for Americans. So them putting that in the American releases makes sense.

And then there's this: "As someone who was born in New York, and raised in New Jersey, today really was a special day, albeit an emotional one, for not only myself, but I’m sure our entire nation. After eleven long years since the terrorist attacks on 9/11, One World Trade Center finally hoisted up the final 408-foot silver spire."

9/11 affected the US and her citizens the most because it disrupted our sense of security and it, almost, broke us.

I can tell you, I saw the movie in NJ and that tag got a lot of confused looks and a couple sarcastic sighs from people around me. (My audience also didn't really react the entire film, so it was.... odd for there to be any commotion over a dedication.)
