This guy watches Voyager

Ok, confession time. I've never really watched Voyager. Sure, I've caught the odd episode here and there, but I've never really seen most of them in any kind of context, or given the show much of a chance. Since it's on Netflix instant watch, I figure now's as good a time as any. I'm not expecting it to be anywhere near as good as my beloved Deep Space Nine, but I'm sure to find some fun stuff to love here. Otherwise, there wouldn't be people talking in this forum all the time, right? I've always found these watch threads fun, not only to make, but to read. I had a really good time with my thread when I watched Lost, so let's try another. Here we go:

Caretaker
This was actually a pretty solid opening. Not Emissary, but I wasn't expecting it to be. Sadly, my favorite part had to be seeing my precious station one last time. I half expected Odo to come waltzing in to Quark's and ask what the commotion was about. Alas, not to be. Also, I had to wonder about the text crawl at the beginning. It's sad to me that they felt the need to explain who the Maquis were. More people should have watched DS9. Ok, I promise that's the last time I'll mention DS9 in this entire thread.

The episode is mostly setting up the characters and the premise. Voyager gets itself good and stranded. The crews are forced to integrate. The Kazon are pissed. Quite convenient how the Maquis crew happens to have just the right people to fill in the jobs of the ones on Voyager that were killed when they were pulled into the delta quadrant, though.

So yeah, that's about all I've got to say about that one. It's not bad at what it does. Not earth shattering, but not bad. I don't really expect too much from my pilot episodes.

Do you find the Kazon novel and interesting???

It won't last

They are pissed all the time, usually for no reason

Enjoy :)

Parallax

Voyager encounters the living entity of fear, and must enlist the help of the Green Lanterns Corps to....no wait, wrong Parallax.

Instead we get a merely ok episode with a forgettable A-story and a far stronger B-story. The story with the singularity is classic Star Trek technobabble problems. Who the heck cares? This is all gibberish that gets solved with more gibberish.

The B-story, about the two crews trying to integrate is far more interesting. Of course things are not going to be all sunshine and kittens at first. I especially liked the moment when some of the former Maquis crew tell Chakotay that they'll be behind him if he decides to mutiny. It's not just the Maquis that are having trouble adjusting. Janeway also seems hesitant to allow any Maquis crew members to have too much power. Granted she comes around about B'ellana toward the end, of course.

I did like it that Chakotay put a stop to the mutiny discussion right away.
