Third Season Remastered episodes with 16x9 VFX

I've been watching a few season 3 episodes on Amazon Prime streaming and to my surprise there are a number of them that switch between 16x9 (for new cgi shots) and 4x3.

The series intro is also 16x9.

I remember reading back when the remastering was done that the episodes aired in Japan did this.

So it looks like somehow a few slipped through and are hosted on Amazone Prime.

The ones I saw that did this are:

The Cloud Minders
Requiem for Methuselah
The Savage Curtain
All our Yesterdays
Turnabout Intruder

Neat. Always wanted to see the episodes this way.

Would you say there's much going on in the extra space or is it mainly starfield?

There's some stuff going, enterprise movement etc..(for the intro)

Cloud Minders was particularly odd though, as the scenes where spock narrates and it cross fades the 16x9 & 4x3 content...looks kinda odd doing that.

I'd love to see it and would have love to own it.

I've got no problem with alternating aspect ratios.

I've got no problem with alternating aspect ratios.
Every time I've mentioned the idea, somebody comes along saying "oh that'd be distracting".

Lots of movies have alternating aspect ratios and I never get distracted by them.

STID had literally dozens of changes in the aspect from 1:66 to 2:35 and it didn't bother me at all.

GotG did as well.

(not all showings did that though)

During high school I remember this friend's dad loved to play the country hayseed. One day we were watching TV when an ad for shampoo came on. It had a woman in the shower so that the bottom of the frame cut things off just when it was getting interesting. Dad remarked, "Y'know, Glenny, we ought to get ourselves one of them big screen TVs so we can see the whole picture."

This is great thanks for the post, wanted to see these as well. I think produced for international syndicated markets.

Just noticed that the Amazon version of Cloud Minders doesn't fix the Kirk 'who are you, what is the meaning of this attack' voice without lip movement. The US syndicated version did however. they cut to a wide shot to cover this original looping error. Now it's back!

Yes, the IMAX showings of some of these movies have done that; The Dark Knight is particularly effective (although I've only ever seen it on Blu-ray).
