A life-size replica of the Tardis has created rifts in the time-space continuum among Doctor Who fans worldwide, after being listed on Trade Me by a Kapiti Coast designer.
Raumati Beach resident Jason Beca began making fantasy toys to keep himself busy after his young son was admitted to hospital with an unknown illness.
Within two days of his offering going online, Mr Beca's time machine – which folds down to reveal a single bed – has clocked up more than 40,000 page views and is a hot topic on science-fiction forums.
"This is actually the best thing I have ever seen," raved a post on one Doctor Who blogsite. "Can this fit in my dorm room?" asked another.
Other fans wondered whether the bed came with a time-travel option, and if the buyer would be some kind of "Nerd Casanova" or be destined to sleep alone.

Pretty cool. This guy is from my home town! Yes, I know I said fan made in the title even though he isn't a fan but it's no biggie. :)

I'd never in a million years buy it for fear of scaring away girls (:p) but it's pretty nifty.

Nice but... the windows should be windows for my taste.

And fortunately, I don't have to worry about scaring away girls. I've been with mine for years and she's slowly starting to accept my love of Trek and DW and my "silly" DW figure collection.
