Things that I'm going to miss about Voyager

I finished watching Endgame about an hour ago.


The whole series has been seen now. There being no 'next episode' of Voyager to put onto the DVD player when I get home after work is going to take a lot of getting used to. It was a very enjoyable experience following the journey home even though I was an outsider and the journey was make believe.

I cried like a fat nerd who's lost his lunch money for about ten minutes at the end.

(not unusual behavour for me. I can't watch the last ep of Frasier without breaking down either)

So, things that I am going to miss about Voyager

- the Doctor, his extensive collection of arias and even more extensive ego
- Seven's body
- Chakotay is a lucky bastard
- the transporters going offline whenever they are needed urgently
- the aliens of the week either being bad guys or 'not what they appear to be'
- Neelix. I never thought that hairy noisy bastard would grow on me. They did a good thing moving Kes along, he stopped being a sideshow and became a wonderful individual and my second favourite character. Geez ......
- and Tuvok's interplay with him
- disturbingly transparent plot twists. Is there anyone who didn't see Old Janeway's destruction of the Borg coming???
- Chakotay and his total submission to Janeway, except when the writers decided it was convenient to forget about it
- and finally

Not being sure what to do with myself now, I think I might write some bad fanfiction.

Or maybe try some excellent professional novels. The ones set immediately after Voyager's return (Homecoming, The Farther Shore etc) are okayish but skippable. Kirsten Beyer's Full Circle, Unworthy and Children of the Storm on the other hand, are excellent (and surely the forthcoming The Eternal Tide will be too)

Find out what happened next.

I'm still going to write some bad fanfiction though. Captain Nick and his coal powered starship to the rescue!

I forgot to add to the list - Seven's meaningless meaningful end of scene facial expressions. Janeway was good at them too but Seven turned them into an art form.

I take it you're a C/7 fan (Chakotay/Seven)? There's some excellent fanfic on fanfiction.net by a British lady called "scifiromance". Some of her stories are absolutely epic, and there's one that says, What if Seven was on a Borg cube that crashed on Chakotay's home world before he left for Starfleet? Fast forward a few years, and you have Seven and Chakotay both in the Maquis (along with B'Elanna, Tuvok, Seska and the others). I've no idea what's going to happen when events get around to the time of "Caretaker" - the author hasn't gotten that far yet, but I am really looking forward to it!

And there are, of course, lots of stories and series that deal with post-Endgame events. I'm following an excellent story where Tom eventually becomes a starship Captain in his own right.

I wrote a star trek parody years ago, it was called 'Nicktrek' (I am not kidding) and it was full of jokes only I would 'get'. I could never figure out why other people didn't find them as uproariously hilarious as I did....
