Things that frustrate us all

Amazon is illegally applying VAT tax to my new book. Books in the UK aren't subject to VAT, and for the first two weeks I had my new book out it wasn't either. Now it has VAT added to its price even though I'm pretty sure that's not legal. Funny thing is, they're NOT applying VAT to the ebook version, only the paperback! And when I pointed all of this out, they said they fixed it, but they didn't! Weeeee!

I am annoyed that the likes of Apple have turned a mono experience (a telephone call) into a 'stereo' one. People go around shouting in the streets as they have both ear pieces in for a call that has only ever been mono.

They should make one ear-piece a pass through in some way.

Weird - Supposed to vat on ebooks, but not physical isn't it?

From what I've read NO books in the UK are supposed to be subject to VAT. There's sorta an exception made for things like reference books, interactive/image books, and some weird stuff like that, but NOT for ordinary fiction novels AT ALL. And if a book is subject to VAT, it should apply to ebook AND physical. Yet my book, which should not be subject to VAT, only has VAT on paperback, not ebook. Which means they aren't even doing that right.

This especially sucks, because I entered the book into the Amazon Storyteller UK contest, and if anyone is looking at maybe picking up my book and boosting my chances of winning, they'll probably be put off by the inflated price. So my already miniscule chances of winning are now somehow even smaller! Thanks Amazon!

Maybe it's because I've been working since high school, or maybe I'm getting old and jaded, but I am sick and tired of these team meetings/conference calls where upper management says that sales are down year to year across the board and we need to do more as front counter people to drive up sales and productivity.
I want to interrupt and say, "Have you looked outside recently at the price of gas or the price of food? People can barely afford to pay their bills and you want us to recommend stuff when they can barely pay for an oil change. That additional $20 you want us to add to the ticket to improve the company bottom line is $20 less the customer might need for an emergency".
Fuck 'em.

They're checking a box. Their bosses are telling them to grow more, so they have to tell you to sell more. They know the economy is bad. But they still have to deliver the message.

If you think of it as play, it makes far more sense. You're basically going to work as an actor playing a role. You wear a costume for that role, and you say your lines for that role. You don't have to like it. But if you think about it as acting, then it all makes more sense.

Very relatable sentiment. I don't know people can live like this, going to work where everyone seems to act like what's happening in terms of the economy isn't.

Linux Ubuntu had 12.6Mb in three security updates today, took 5 seconds to download and install. I'm glad I ditched Microsoft.

I always wanted to switch to Ubuntu, but the clean, polished look of the Apple Ecosystem has been enough to lock me into it for the past 3 and a half years. I used to use Windows. Glad I ditched it. By no means am I a superfan or anything of Apple though.

I run a lot of different operating systems at home.

They each fit a role. I have obsd on my router that I saw will have some patches coming out these week based on CVS commits.

Really, my next upgrade is going to be either a magnetic or mechanical keyboard.

I guess I'm way out of date (Scary as I have to do it for work - but we don't deal with publications so....the new rule came out in 2020?)
Good to know.

Amazon ought to fix it though:(

They finally did today! Woo! But only after a bunch of messages from them basically saying "Uh ... this is harder to fix than we thought it would be, we need some more time." I'm just glad it's sorted. Honestly, I'd be happy to list my books as free, that's what I did when I had them on Draft2Digital. The only reason I slinked back to Amazon was because of the new monthly/yearly fees Draft2Digital implemented, which I couldn't afford. When I was on Draft, I had a couple of hundred people download my books. Since moving back to Amazon I've had ... one sale! Maybe I should just upload PDFs of my books somewhere so people can download and read them for free? I just want folks to read them, I'm not expecting to make big bucks indie publishing.

Last year I had an important meeting with my mom, my support and some people from the psych ward. Back then I asked for assisted cohabitation, I was denied because I was considered "too good" for it by my support.

But I have once again been triggered due to loneliness, my depression is back with a vengeance because of said trigger and I can't afford a stay in the psych ward again because my income is cut by 780€.

But I don't care anymore. I'm tired, I'm tired of being alone, I'm tired of living alone and having no one to count on. I'm tired of coming home and be greeted by silence, I'm so tired of it.

I have asked my psychologist that I wanted to start assisted cohabitation, If my support won't help me, I have to do it another way. Mom is trying to help me as well, I have also asked my psychiatrist. I'm planning on enlisting my doctor as well, I hope I will succeed.

Because if I don't, they I fear I might end up in in a psych ward again. If my support had listened to me, I would have moved by now, I wouldn't be alone, I wouldn't be triggered and my depression hadn't returned with a vengeance.

And I don't understand why I'm not good enough for assisted cohabitation but still need my disabled income reviewed to get more assistance, make it make sense!

I have no words to encourage you, I cant start to understand what you are experiencing

All I can say is reading your post has made me genuinely emotional and I just want to extend a virtual hug and say I hope things improve for you.

Indeed has become unusable.

Couple years back, they implemented having to have phone service to apply to a job. I do not have phone service.

So, I was able to keep looking at jobs, and then if the company had a website, I could apply from the source and bypass Indeed.

Now, I find today, that Indeed can no longer be used without phone service. All you have access to is the home page. Search for a job, boom -- gotta log in and verify with phone service. Try to bypass that with a search for a job via link in Google and then try to change anything (radius, date posted, etc.) and boom -- hit with the same thing.

Glass Door partnered with Indeed years back, but only a few short months ago officially announced it like it was a new thing, making GD unusable as well.

That's one reason why I could never work for any organization big enough to have team meetings, an HR department, or a "corporate culture." I have an extremely low bullshit threshold.

It's how you make a good living most of the time. You get on with it.

I returned two separate orders to Amazon at the same time to the same location. Just got credit back for one, but the other is delayed. How?
