Things coming down the pipeline...

I've recently gotten back into scale modeling, specifically building replicas of screen-used kitbashed ships. I'm currently bouncing around between three projects:

1. The 'Millenium Falcon-prise' from the movie "Zapped!"

2. A new bash of the U.S.S. Centaur. now 100% accurate based on new pics of the original model with parts guide

3. The U.S.S. Curry

Unfortunately this will be the second time I've had to rebuild inaccurate models once I got better reference photos. And in the case of the Centaur, some of the kits I needed weren't cheap. But I've managed to scrounge up all the necessary kits for the models. The Zapped ship was the easiest: Only a TMP Enterprise and an MPC Millenium Falcon kit are needed, other than some aftermarket clear plastic globes (or lightbulbs if you plan on lighting the models, which I don't).

Quick question: I want to start posting some in-process pics of my models, but I didn't know what pic-posting site or upload site is the best. Any suggestions?

@Dukhat, speaking of the Curry, and moving laterally to her sister Raging Queen, were you ever able to identify that domed object on top and in front of the secondary hull? I remember a few years ago several of us (on Flare) thought it was the battery cover to an old remote control or something. I bunch of us had memories of its existence but not its specific provenance. Did anything ever come of that, to your recollection?

I remember that's what Shik thought it was, since he remembered having that specific remote control and thinking that the battery cover was unique. But unfortunately that's where the speculation ended. I have all the parts to recreate the Raging Queen (but I probably won't get to it anytime soon), but not that specific part.

If you are talking about the top of the front of the secondary hull, I thought that was an excelsior nacelle top front, if on the back, it is the excelsior front section of the shuttlebay.

What we're talking about is the object right behind the nacelle top front. You can only see a sliver of it because the front of the saucer obscures the rest.

That looks like damage or warping of the plastic on the nacelle front at the cowling...if you look at the first pic and this added pic, it does not appear to be anything extra, just an optical illusion (at least to me and imo):

No, that's not the object I'm talking about. I'm not talking about that small gold-colored piece in front of the nacelle cap (that's actually a piece from the Reliant kit, IIRC). In the second pic, the object I'm referring to is right below the battle damage on the saucer front.

Wait I am not trying to argue here, I'm just trying to help out, as I am a huge Raging Queen fan and, I think we are getting our points mixed up...Sorry if I am mistaken, but I am talking about this:

I'm not trying to argue either; sorry if that's how I came across :)

Thanks to your pic, I definitely see that there's a miscommunication here, probably on my part. I wasn't talking about the front of the Reliant nacelle. I was talking about the object behind the Excelsior nacelle front cap that's right at the bow of the secondary hull:

Oh I see now...got it. I always thought that was not a structure, but it is, and I see it now. This ship is a harsh mistress to reveal her secrets.
And no worries bro, we were just getting mixed-up. :)

Many of us have been banging our heads against the wall trying to figure out what that last little bit is. When you think about the scale of the main donor model (AMT/ERTL 1:1000 Excelsior), it's only about 2" wide at that point on the secondary hull. Many of us recall "seeing" and "feeling" the texture on that thing, maybe 20+ years ago. The ribbing in the front, in particular, seems like it might be a thumb friction point for a remote control battery cover plate - the 2" width fits in that context. The outer flange on the piece, however, may lend itself to being something else, as every battery plate I've seen on a remote fits flush to the main body, even going back to the clunky old remote controls of the 80's. Its provenance has eluded us for years and is quite frustrating. :brickwall:

I was hoping that whoever bought the Raging Queen from the Propworx auction would take more pics of the model, but apparently that hasn’t happened. :(

I was hoping for the same thing as well. Perhaps someone knows the lucky bidder who won it and ask them to take better photos of this elusive part...

I look forward to your Zapped hybrid.

Were I to try it—I might cut away some of the Falcon’s clunkier bits with a somewhat smoother saucer—the Falcon dish underslung

Thanks for the bump. I actually finished the Zapped model some time ago, but never got around to adding the wash to make it look more realistically weathered. Once I do that I'll take some pics of it. And the original Zapped model was exactly as you describe: the model maker only used the top and bottom halves of the hull and omitted the middle parts to make it a flatter ship (although there's no dish.)

And now, thanks to covid-19, I'll have some time to start the Centaur.

That's great news! I hope you get to post what you've done :)

Thanks. I'm going to start by taking photos of the various model kit boxes and the specific parts from each box, so if other people want to build their own replica, they'll know what to buy. What sucks is that several kits only used one part from the kit, so unless you make the part yourself, you'll be buying lots of useless kits. However, you could still build the model without the part if you wanted to (i.e. you can still build the airplane but it won't have landing gear, etc.)

The Falcon hyperdrive would be a nice 10-forward/arboretum.
