Theory on why Sun isn't one of the Candidates

You remember in 316, Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sayid were sent back in time but not Sun and the other passengers on the plane. Since it has been confirmed that Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sayid are four of the Candidates, it now makes sense to me why Sun wasn't transported back in time with them. Because Jacob (who I think was the leap to the past) could only transport the Candidates to that point in time and not non-Candidates who he thinks wouldn't serve a purpose even if they were sent back in the past with Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sayid. So I think the Kwon on the list of potential Candidates is actually Jin, not Sun.

Er... As far as we know Kate ISN'T one of the candidates. She's not one of the numbers. Had this same thought the other day but the Kate thing kind of throws a wrench into it. And it's kind of strange too since we saw Jacob visit her when she was a child.

I'm trying to remember here. Did Jacob physically touch Jack when he gave him the chocolate bar ? Or Kate when he gave her the lunchbox ?

He definitely touched Jin, Sayid and Locke.

I believe "Austin" was on the lighthouse wheel, but not in the cave.

And, since notLocke went to the cave, I think, the cave is MIB's candidates, while the lighthouse is Jacob's candidates.

I think, they each need to be replaced at the same time, so they each need a candidate.

It also explains the look notLocke gave Kate when she walked out of the temple.

Hermiod: Jacob gave Jack a candy bar which Jack had a hold of the other end of it so maybe Jacob touched him through the candy bar.

Jacob tapped Kate by the nose.

Renee: I think you're right.

"Austen" was on the cave wall but crossed out, Carlton Cuse has confirmed that. They mistakenly did not choose a camera shot that showed it.

Her name was also seen in the lighthouse, but not crossed out.

Thanks.

Curiously, Ilana believes that there are six candidates left. She appears not to be discounting Locke and/or Sayid. She may also be counting Jin and Sun separately.

There is a list of names seen in both the cave and the Lighthouse here.

Perhaps to show MIB decided he didn't want her for a candidate.

It would also explain why he led Claire to believe whoever took her child, did so for nefarious reasons.

There's an easier explanation for why it's probably Jin. Jacob's clearly been watching all these people from his lighthouse over several years if not decades. Considering Sun has only been recently married, she'd likely have been labeled as Paik instead of Kwon.

Don't you think if Jacob had the power to not only see their destinys, but to alter their 'course', that he would have known Sun would have married Jin by the time she got to the island?

^ Jacob actually "candidates" them (touches them) on their wedding day. So, maybe, it is the act of them marrying which makes them candidates.

I did have a theory that it's Ji Yeon Kwon (their daughter) cos otherwise why touch both of them but even I think that is rather out there.

If Jacob was actually that powerful then why does he need candidates at all? if he can see the future then he knows how it's going to turn out. He knows who lives, who dies, who goes evil, etc... He wouldn't have "hoped he was wrong" about Ben, he would have known, etc...

I think people are assuming Jacob has a lot more power then he really does.

So Vincent's a candidate?
