Theory about the flash sideaways that center on Jack

I think the flash sideaways timeline is Jack's creation. By the end of the series, a handful of the people who survive the events of Season 6 will escape the island by means of the sub or the Ajira plane while Jack will stay behind and take Jacob's place as protector of the island and jailer of Flocke. While doing this job, Jack takes a moment to think about what life would have been like if the stunt with the bomb in the Incident had actually worked and used his Jacob-like powers to explore that alternate reality. He even sends Juliet a vision of that reality to give her some peace before she died. Desmond bumsp into the reality somehow. After Jack's done with his exploration, we'll have the scene of Jack and Flocke sitting on the beach like Jacob and the MIB were doing in the Incident and we see from a distance another group of people heading towards the island. Flocke tells Jack how much he wants to kill him and Jack says he knows.

A new cycle is born.

Nah. I think, based on Richard's episode, that it's all just leading up to why letting Smokey off the island will be a BadThing(tm). We're going to see everyone's life go to Hell really soon, if not the entire planet.

The same scenario could be played out with anybody else.

But I like the symmetry of what you forecast.

I was thinking that since Ricardo is now confirmed ageless, (like in a way, Jacob is), why doesn't he take over from Jacob?

Because he had sided with MiB, even unknowingly and only temporarily?

Richard's done his penance (per Isabella), so he'll be dead in the finale.

Sawyer is still on his own side, but does abide by his word--he wants off the island with Kate, Jin, and Sun safe. I don't know about anyone else he promised to get off the island.

The surviving Others will likely die by Smokey's doing after they retreat in fear of him (even the kids, to show how bad Smokey is), because, frankly, they don't matter to the story otherwise.

Of the main cast:

Jack stays as the new Jacob, after getting everyone else off of the island, as he had always tried.
Maybe Hurley stays as the new Richard, maybe not.
Frank flies the plane, taking Jin, Sun, Miles, Sawyer, and Kate--maybe Hurley. Or they take the sub.
Locke (the real Locke) is dead.
Sayid and Claire die/are already dead.
Illana dies protecting the candidates.
Ben dies to save Jack and/or Illana.
Richard dies fighting MiB.

MiB continues--but remains looking like Locke, since he and Jack were always on opposite sides.

I don't know the role Widmore plays--he's always ready to kill everyone, so maybe he becomes the new MiB and everyone else on the sub dies. Or maybe the sub crew leaves with the survivors.

I'm goin' with my "everyone dies in the finale, the flash sideways are the afterlife" theory. :rommie:

I just want everyone to die in the finale. DIE DIE DIE!

I don't think the sideways stuff is the afterlife, but I wouldn't be surprised if everyone did die. Certainly, almost everyone's going to die.

They very well may be pulling a huge "Rope a dope" on the Jack angle. They have everybody convinced he'll be the next gaurdian, or whatever, or even that there will be a new guardian at all

It just seems very hamfisted to lead so heavily in that direction, & then pursue it. I think they may pull the rug out on that one, before it's all over

Hurley is the only one who seems like he'd make a decent guardian. Especially since he'd never truly be alone.

I'm with Temis, but less bloodthirsty.

As posted in my thread, I think everyone dies and the flash-sidways are either purgatory or hell. They may look good now, but they're about to get very, very bad for all involved. The fact that the Island is a cork keeping in evil, as revealed in the last episode, and that it is sunken in the "sideways reality" confirms this even more for me. The cork is gone in the flash-sideways, so we are seeing a world upon which hell is unleashed. The fact that it looks so nice now is just misdirection.

Maybe the Candidates are all people who can convince MIB to take over from Jacob instead of actually taking over from Jacob.
