Okay fellow Trekkers, one of my favorite things are those fan collective DVD sets. I want to do something similar by coming up with playlists of Trek episodes around a theme.
The big restriction is series only. My preference is to come up with one episode frome each live action series and not more than two from any one series. If someone has an Animated Series suggestion it's not out of bounds but since there are so few episodes I don't figure there will be a lot of applicability in most cases.
So for my first playlist the theme is Duets.
The idea is episodes which feature a regular cast member and a guest star that is primarily about a dynamic tension between the two. The name for the list comes from the episode that inspired the idea namely Duet from Deep Space Nine.
My suggestions for the list are...
TOS: Space Seed
I'd have liked to have chosen Balance Of Terror but Shatner and Lenard don't really have but one scene together. The other most likely one Conscience Of The King is pretty terrible.
TNG: Chain Of Command Part Two
A real close second for me would be The Most Toys with the lovely chemistry between Spiner and Rubinek.
DS9: Duet
As I said this is the one that inspired the list. It is one of the best episodes of DS9 perhaps one of the best episodes of Trek period.
A close second for me is probably For The Uniform which features Sisko facing off against Starfleet Officer turned Maquis Michael Eddington.
VOY: Drone
Drone is about the accidental fusion of Borg Nanoprobes and 29th century technology to create an advanced Borg who Seven of Nine attempts to teach how to be an individual without the Borg discovering his existence. Although Counterpoint would be a more obvious choice there is a level of quality and emotion to Drone that I feel makes it the clear winner.
ENT: Stratagem
Archer creates a ruse to try and trick information out of a Xindi scientist. There are other good candidates but I like the tight pacing of this one.
So that's my picks I'll be curious to see what suggestions others have.
