So, in a nutshell, and by no means is every activity listed, but these are gerneral things that high-schoolers (youngin's as the old folks call them) did for fun in their vaious 'decades'....

What do you think the common teenager will be doing in, Kirk's or even Picard's time...Will every element of rebellious fun be obliterated???

That is one reason I like the XI clip. Young Kirk seems like a normal angst driven kid, meaning; flawed But something tells me he is more of an outsider...

what do teenagers do in in STAR TREK's future? What do they do....for fun? Or is it all vanilla?

We have quite a few Amish and Old-Order Mennonites and so on living in Indiana (which is where I live), and you know what? Amish kids (invariably boys, as far as I know) can get pretty wild. I'm not saying they hire strippers or snort cocaine anything, because for one thing, it's isn't easy to find strippers when you live deep in the country and have only a horse and buggy for transportation. But they do drink to excess sometimes (supposedly the wilder ones have trained their horses so that the horses can drive the kids home when they're passed-out drunk -- try doing that with a Hyundai), and they stay out late at noisy parties, and they don't do their chores, and they piss off their parents and so on. And for all I know, they might get wilder than that.

As I understand it, while this doesn't please the grownups, it's viewed with some tolerance so long as the boys are too young to officially join the church, which doesn't usually happen until the person is in his or her late teens or early 20s. It's like a pseudo-official "sow your sort of wild oats" period.

Anyway, my point is that if Amish kids can find ways to rebel, the kids in the Star Trek time period will manage it, too. If nothing else, at least they'll be able to get around easier than you can in a horse and buggy.

But I do think they'll have to work at it. It seems like a pretty sanitized place, which is mostly a good thing...

Actually a lot of Amish youth do go completely crazy and get involved with drugs and sex during Rumspringa. This is the time that they choose whether they will become 'truly amish' as an adult or leave the faith. They are given a lot more freedom during this time and it isn't surprising that some of them go overboard considering how sheltered they have been.

On Trek, of course kids would still rebel. I'm sure kids run away to join mining ships, stow away on ships occasionally, suffer from holodeck addiction, steal their parents alcohol and synthehol, we know that dangerous sports are still popular..we know that drugs still exist, but we don't know if they are available on earth. Wesley seemed to be shocked at the idea, but perhaps he was just naive.
 
Well if Voyager's "Real Life" is any indication, teenagers will always rebel against their parents. Nick Locarno wasn't exactly the model student either. There was also that kid in an season one episode of TNG ("Coming of Age"?) who takes a shuttle craft for a joyride. I believe that Tom Paris also said he went joyriding and crashed into a lake. And if previews are any indication, it looks like Kirk isn't toeing the line either.

So kids will always be kids.
 
It isn't Federation, but I remember the episode where the human kid was raised by Terrellians (?). There was the scene where he had some loud "music" blasting in Picard's quarters, much to Picard's chagrin.

And even Wesley, at the end of his story arc, became an angry youth, rude and snappy with everyone.

I suppose particular rebellion would depend on the individual. I imagine had Rene Picard not burned up, he'd drive his father mad with talk of joining Starfleet to be just like Uncle Jean-Luc.
 
I think they'll be doing more or less the same things teenagers are doing now, just in a different setting with different things in a different time.

Jake went through a mild teenage rebellion. He distanced himself from his father, dated Dabo girls, hung out with a friend his father disapproved of.
 
Teenage rebellion, like popular culture, any music not belonging to the public domain, interpersonal conflict of any kind, slang, and homosexuality, has been outright obliterated by the time of the 24th century.

Well, if I were a 24th century teenager I'd spend my time sneaking into holodecks to fuck hot chicks.

Though, I'm sure we would have to download 'holodeck hacks' off of the internet to get to the freaky shit.
 
Teenage rebels, Worf was said to have got into fights when he was a kid (but he was Klingon, so i can excuse that), Alexander went and joined the Klingon Defense Force (but again, a Klingon), even Picard was rather rebellious in his younger days, his artificial heart proves that.

Yep...but what does rebellious mean in the 24th century. And, all of what they showed us was in his starfleet career..

What do teeagers do? Do they still drag-race? Do they still sneak off and get high or smoke? What is life like for for teenager in the 24th century? Is it all studies and trying to get into starfleet? And what about those who don't elect to serve starfleet?
