Theatrical Wrap-Up to HBO Series Rome?

Could be complete BS, but interesting just the same. I think a "Rome" movie would be awesome.
Bruno Heller says he wants to produce a theatrical wrap-up to his critically beloved and prematurely canceled HBO drama "Rome."

"There is talk of doing a movie version," he said. "It's moving along. It's not there until it is there. I would love to round that show off."

Honestly, I'm somewhat satisfied with how it ended and feel that it doesn't really need one (besides, the story is continued anyway in I, Claudius ;)) Deadwood on the other hand could definitely benefit from a concluding movie.

Why? One of the two leads is dead by the final scene, and the story is more or less wrapped up. The only sequel I could see is another series or a remake of I, Claudius.

Titus Pullo lied and Lucius Vorenus is still alive.

I found the ending to be pretty satisfying, though there defiantly is room for a movie and I would see it.

The series ended fine, but I can see them making a movie and if the did I would watch in a heartbeat. great show!!!!

My idea was that Octavian would send Titus and Vorenus to stop a would-be-messiah in Judea. Yes, they are sent to kill Jesus. Of course, the whole timeline is off by decades, but...

Well we've still got the primary cast around (Jacobi, Phillips, Blessed, Hurt, Baker, Stewart) so we could see who's up for a reamake :)

There is a lot in the books that wasn't covered in the series that I guess modern production techniques and budgets would allow (such as Claudius's one great military victory - the conquoring of Brtiannia).

I dunno... was the Augustus reign all that interesting?

It was the final transition from Empire to Republic, Augustus governed fairly well (especially compared to some of the others who followed including Tiberius (stepson)) and it was a fairly prosperous time for Roman and without the civils was that of the preceding 50 odd yeasrs (Sulla v Marius, Caeser v the Optimate, Octavian v Anthony)

I'm not exactly sure how the series ending could be called "premature" ... It was, after all, a mini-series, which was written and edited as a finale at the end of what is now known as the first season.

Though it did give us a nice second season, it did still feel tacked on and a bit rushed in comparison.

I would be interested in seeing what they did with a movie, but I'm not sure it would get multiple viewings. Honestly, what else could they do? They were already on HBO for two years. Anything a tv series would typically do during the jump to movies (swearing, nudity, blatant sexuality) we've already had.

Yeah, I know - it's comparatively boring when placed up against Caesar and Antony.

They actually had a five year plan. I think HBO/BBC/RAI pulled the renewal trigger too soon and was committed to a second season, so they had to make it... but, you can see how they pretty much sped up time in the second season compared to the first season in order to get through all the major events in that time period.

I don't want to see anything about Jesus in Rome. Would he even have been discussed in Roman political circles before 64 or so? There must have been alleged prophets running around all the time.

Vorenus Vivit!

I'd rather see a Carnivale comic book... :-P

I know Apted said he wanted to tell the Caesar story over time. You can sort of see how the show is completely different in Season 2 when they basically race through history at a breakneck pace.

Are we talking Caesar the man or the position here given that we saw the Ides of March in S1?.

I think both. I got the impression that the assassination was sped up to create the cliffhanger after they realized that the ratings were low in the UK in order to facilitate the major change in pace in season 2.

No, they paced S1 as they wanted. Try giving the linked article a read. :techman:
Bruno Heller said:
"I discovered halfway through writing the second season the show was going to end," Heller said. "The second was going to end with death of Brutus. Third and fourth season would be set in Egypt. Fifth was going to be the rise of the messiah in Palestine. But because we got the heads-up that the second season would be it, I telescoped the third and fourth season into the second one, which accounts for the blazing speed we go through history near the end."
