This sounds almost just like "Friday Night Lights" (2006) TV series but instead of High School it is college.“The Wreck,” set in the world of Southern college football, centers on the high-profile head coach of a once-legendary team that has just finished a losing season. The school gives the coach one last chance to turn the team into winners or he’s fired.
The project is from the writing team of Graham Gordy and Michael Fuller and is produced by Anonymous Content. The production company and Hancock also serve as executive producers.
"AMC is near a deal to acquire a drama from “The Blind Side” director John Lee Hancock.
Hancock's 'Wreck' near-touchdown at AMCAMC is expected to pick up the project for development,
While "Friday Night Lights" is on NBC & DirectTV "The Wreck" would be on AMC and we all know how well its first two dramas, “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad" have gone.
Is there a market for this? Sure and it isn't necessarily an original movie on ESPN.
With some college football stadiums holding over 50,000 spectators it is big business and high pressure. It will totally be compared to "Friday Night Lights" though but should be worth watching on AMC (the new HBO for quality TV series on TV).
