The Wolfman getting another reboot

But that hardly means we've seen the last of the legendary fanged moon-howler. In fact, it seems as though the studio already wants to reboot the property for the big screen. Universal had been considering a sequel to last year's disappointment, but Moviehole says that intended follow-up is now "being rewritten and reworked to be an original film – almost a reboot of the classic Universal monster movie series."

Benicio del Toro obviously won't be back in the fur shirt, but Moviehole says the new project will look for directors soon for a possible start in the fall. And it might even get a different title... possibly just WEREWOLF.

Looks like the last Wolfman movie was so bad, even the director had to apologize for it!

Joe Johnston apologizes for The Wolfman, says Captain America will be way better

I had three weeks of prep on WOLFMAN, a ridiculously inadequate amount of time to try to bring together the fractured and scattered pieces of the production. I had taken the job mostly because I had a cash flow problem, the only time in my career I’ve ever let finances enter into the decision process.

Damn, I wish they would just leave it alone. They can't beat the original.

I accepted that the last one wasn't perfect, but it wasn't that bad. I think no matter how films are received, folks are just going to go ahead and redo and do over every few years now simply because they can. Every franchise is going to have a 'Battle of the Bonds' every few years when something gets maligned or just doesn't make the money they expect. The irony is, if you just stopped effing with everything, it would be the mostest!

Aha, I did include it in my decent recent horror list awhile back:

The Wolfman (2010) – This flawed, but fun remake from director Joe Johnston (The Rocketeer) is smart to keep traditional make up and period styles ala the original 1941 classic. The old time atmosphere and mood is here thanks to fine performances and clout all around from Chaney-esque Benicio del Toro (Traffic), Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs), Hugo Weaving (The Matrix), and Emily Blunt (The Young Victoria). Unfortunately, the CGI graphics here are kind of bad, unnecessary extras we don’t need. Likewise, an uneven edit and mistakes on the Director’s Cut hurt the picture. Although the gore is just right, The Wolfman isn’t that scary, going for more period drama. Today of course, we can’t seem to have both solid horror and great drama, and the open ending here is a bit much, too. Most of the wolf mythos and gypsy material is fairly stereotypical as well, and the score sounds exactly like it was ripped from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Though imperfect, this spooky little movie entertained me, and I hope this is the vibe and style used for the upcoming Dark Shadows movie. However, I do hope Universal doesn’t do any other classic remakes. You can see this was a labor of love for those involved, but leave it at that, okay? And while I’m complaining, the blu-ray disc had so many annoying widgets and interactive menus that we didn’t bother fighting them to get to the features. I also hate super low voices and loud ass loud effects, but nowadays that’s the norm!

i actually liked the Wolfman remake. it does have its problems, and it is disjointed in places, but i still had fun watching it. it was dumb fun like the Mummy movies.

Are you f'ing serious? Hollywood needs some ideas.....

Damn, I wish they would just leave it alone. They can't beat the original.

You mean the Lon Chaney Jr Wolfman? I didn't like that one much. However, the earlier Werewolf of London was fantastic, if that counts as the same franchise.

I enjoyed it - the ending was a bit crap, but the cast were fun and the monster was good. I especially loved the scene where the doctor straps him into a chair in a classroom full of medical students, to prove that nothing would physically happen...

To be honest, I find the original boring as hell. Then again, I find the entire concept boring. The best? The original "An American Werewolf in London." The transformation scenes in that movie show their age but still manage to feel fantastic.

I'm glad I only spent $1 at the Redbox for Wolfman. It was sooooooooooo boring. I would love to see a good adaptation.

Well Joe Johnston biggest screw up was casting Benicio del Toro. Sorry he just didn't work and it looked bad when compared to Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving. Second there was not enough Emily Blunt. Third too much violence. When will Hollywood learn that a little goes a long ways.

Anyways, Captain America better be good or I will personally KILL HIM (and no this is not a joke).

My favorite of the original Universals was Wolf Man, and Wolf Man 2010 was not a remake; it had nothing in common with the original but the recycled names (which was just distracting). However, as an original movie, it was pretty good. It looked great, had a decent story, good actors and the werewolf was actually a wolfman instead of a big monstrous wolf. I have no idea what they have in mind for this new one, but I'd rather see an original story rather than a remake; or a nice B&W sequel to the original (yes, I've seen House of Wolf Man, but it's not official and it was just a bit disappointing).

Now I like bernicio del toro in this he was great and so was hopkins and the only problems I had was the flashback's with his mother. and the originial was a great movie all so for it's time and a classic. as for emily I wish it was an R rated movie so we could have seen her naked. that would have been awesome.

I quite enjoyed the 1941 original, but I was disappointed in not getting to see more of the Wolfman himself. And pity the scenes are set so obviously on a sound stage.
