The Wind Noise On Qo'nos Is The Same As 'The Cage's' Talos IV

This is a huge Easter egg. I just watched the film again and noticed the strange wind noise when Uhura exits Mudd's Ship to go speak with the Klingons. If you listen it is the same noise that those plants made from the original pilot 'The Cage'. In The Cage when they beam down to Talos IV, you hear that strange noise as Pike and Spock go looking for the camp and approach a plant called 'The Talosian singing plant' and Spock and Pike both hold some leaves fluttering and the noise stops and when they let go the noise resumes. It took me 3 trips to the movie but it is definitely the same noise from 1965 that is used as the wind noise on Qo'nos during the whole time they are on the planet.

But J.J. Abrams hates Star Trek! :scream:
LOL BillJ.......We know he doesn't. To use that noise as the wind on Qo'nos shows they did their research inserting historical sound effects from the past. I can't believe nobody has noticed the Talos IV plant sounds.

I'm sure it's not the same noise, but many of the sound effects created for the 2009 movie were made to be as close to those used in the original TV series as possible. It would seem they're continuing with that approach to sound design on this film.

Oh it's the same noise but just made with modern musical equipment making it sound a lot better. You can really hear it when Uhura approaches the Klingons and after the action scenes are over as Harrison surrenders to Kirk.

I just wish they'd taken the same approach to the red alert klaxon. :(

That's right, he doesn't hate Trek, that's just silly. He is indifferent to it. ;)

Sound designer Ben Burtt being a TOS fan is almost certainly the sole reason that sound was emulated.

I'm sure Abrams's 'hatred' of TOS is played up for the media. As a way of selling the movie to non Trekkies. 'Look, I'm one of YOU'!

On the DVD of Trek 09, Abrams says he watched it and enjoyed it, but he was never obsessed. He says he was more of a Twilight Zone/Rod Serling guy

Yeah, but it's much easier for people to hate the movies if they're convinced Abrams hates Star Trek. :techman:

I noticed that too. Nice touch.

However, it's also present on Delta Vega in ST09. I remember grinning like a fanboy when I head the atmosphere sounds. Wondering if anybody else in the theatre at the time picked up on it too.

Can't find a better more complete clip, but pop the dvd/bluray in and the 'alien atmosphere' ambience is there on Delta Vega.
