"The Wait is Over..."

Blackmail?

That sounds like the most fruitful strategy I've heard around here in a long time! :rommie:

I still say if a new Star Trek series is going to happen, it will end up on The CW before CBS or Showtime. Even though CW is currently gearing itself toward a young female demographic currently, they look to expand to wider range of audience in the future.

Space opera is a pretty big stretch from where they are currently. However, for the 2010-11 season, CW did have a space opera pilot called Plymouth Rock in contention. It wasn't picked up, but they were the only network with a space opera pilot of any sort at all.

So, I guess stranger things could happen than having Star Trek show up on CW. But I wouldn't have a whole lot of faith it would be the show I'd want to see.

I have been re-thinking my comment about not a lot of sci-fi shows offering competition. What if the opposite needs to happen? Maybe several major Sci-Fi Space shows start airing, on different networks. What would happen if these shows start getting major ratings? That along with sci-fi movies making $200+ million, outside of the next Star Trek movies.

Think about why Paramount started to look to do a Star Trek show back in the mid 80s. After Star Wars, how many sci-fi related pictures were making money? I know the television market had almost nothing, had a couple of network sci-fi shows quickly canceled within two seasons. So Paramount did the smart thing by not placing it on the major networks. It was not all just because fan-demand was there, the profits shown Paramount there is a market there.

Can this currently hold true for CBS Studios. Right now the sci-fi space drama is in a state of flux. There are shows that may go away within the next year, new ones may pop in. The one I am enjoying is "Stargate Universe" I think it is better than "Stargate Atlantis" and the last 2 seasons of SG-1. It is just one show out there right now.

I know George Lucas has been proposing to do a live action Star Wars tv-series since 2005. Was suppose to go into production by now, but he last announced it was on hold. If this comes to light and airs on ABC, NBC, or Syfy Channel, how would CBS react? The Star Wars title carries a lot of weight, and so does Star Trek.

Like I've been saying The CW may start needing some fresh new material in the next 2 years. That is if what they have going on this year does not start drawing in more people. They are most likely need to expand they're target demographic to survive in the long run.
