When Seven was explaining her theory to Janeway she referenced Seska as a Commander. I don't remember her being a Commander. Does anyone else? Maybe this should've been a clue that she wasn't "right" when she was relating events to Janeway.

The weird continuity detail I love in "Voyager Conspiracy" is when Neelix is all "Kes WAS always going on about how she thought something else was going on with the Caretaker..." No she wasn't!

That's true. Must've been an off camera conversation before she was captured by the Kazon. ;)

Maybe it was right before she dumped Neelix for not believing in her bizarre Caretaker conspiracy theories? :p

There is roughly 97 hours of televised Voyager time. They were in the delta quadrant for let's say about 61,320 hours. We saw < .1% of Voyager's time in the Delta quadrant on screen.

Kes was with them for about 26,500 hours. Assuming that Kes was on camera 10 percent of the time on average for three seasons, that amounts to roughly 6 hours of screen time. Let's call it 10 hours to make it even.

Kes was on screen for approximately .04% of her time on Voyager. Do we really know what she might have talked about when she was NOT on screen?

Might be her Obsidian Order rank was Commander. Might be Seven thought her Obsidian Order rank was Commander, or ought to have been Commander in order for the world to make sense...

(On screen, she was always called Ensign but always shown wearing the dark slash of the enlisted instead.)

In general, it appears the writers were so into the whole conspiracy thing that they, too, got careless in their quest for random square tidbits to hammer into round holes. Which is not to the detriment of the episode at all!

When I read this, I heard it being said in Seven of Nine's voice. :D

Pretty much everything Seven says or thinks in this episode is suspect, because of the damage she sustained. So I wouldn't take any of her lines as gospel.

Hell, for all we know, she dreamed the whole thing up, and it never actually 'happened'.

She pretty much goes off her rocker in this episode. I also like the episode where she is taking on the personalities of people who were assimilated. It's an unusual episode, and she does some top notch character acting.

I wonder if "Commander Seska" is in the original teleplay?

Regarding Kes, she strikes me as imaginative enough that she may have thought or believed something else was going on with the caretaker. Something she may have told Neelix, but likely wouldn’t have felt was something to share with the voyager crew overall.

This is one reason why I love Seven of Nine. :adore: :borg:

She's not perfect. She's not a paragon of virtue (I'm looking at YOU, Jean-Luc Picard! :shifty: )

She makes mistakes. She bit off more than she could chew.

That must've been a rollercoaster ride for Jeri Ryan.

A couple of you said that 7 of 9 was off her rocker in this episode? How exactly? She had Access to so much information, she could pick and choose enough circumstantial evidence to make such a bold claim, and near the end of the episode,Janeway and Chakotay bought into it enough to not trust each other and think there was validity to it. So I’ll ask you,if the Captain and XO could see the Merits to Seven’s claims, why are we as observers so quick to denounce it?
It reminds me of every single conspiracy theory we’ve ever heard, some of em may be true, but we explain it away, without much proof. Is there difinitive proof there WASNT a full blown conspiracy? Or did Janeway and Chakotay realize they may have in fact been in this big federation conspiracy and decided they weren’t the masterminds so let’s shake hands and get some sleep (and leave it out our official logs) as far as I know tricobalt devices are banned by the kitomer accord #2,and tuvok should be the crew member LEAST likely to set the yield too high, that it would all but guarantee the subspace damage the weapon causes which is the exact reason why it’s banned by treaty. A treaty that “even the Romulans abided by” all in all this episode has always bothered me.

What makes the episode work is Seven downloads too much information, and so starts to draw connections and inferences where none(probably) existed. She uses this downloading successfully earlier on, but she starts downloading far more than her mind can handle.

The issue with the tractor beam and ship I did think was an odd mystery though, did the episode actually resolve that issue? I don’t recall if it did or not.

I also do think given the number of times Chakotay was betrayed, by Tuvok and Seska, he would be slightly more open to it than Janeway. Which the episode shows he was.

I’m gonna have to rewatch it tonight, and I’ll give my thoughts later this evening.

Hey, I’ll watch caretaker on the iPad, and the voyager conspiracy on my tv. Make like Seven, and take in the facts faster than my brain can handle, maybe I can come up with a working theory that there was a federation conspiracy.
