The Visitor & The Inner Light

They are both very emotional episodes, and prove that family is more important to a man that his career. I just watched "Inner Light" on SciFi today. No matter how stoic Picard tries to be, a family and children is what he longs for. Ben and Jake have that, and "The Visitor" proves that nothing can break that bond.

At first blush it would seem to be Jake's Inner Light episode since he lived an entire life apart from his normal one. However it is Sisko who comes away with a revelation of how Jake's life turned out in response to his tragic, semi-death in limbo.

As it turned out, Sisko did end up in limbo, in teh wormhole, but Jake knows that he irretrievable without the consent of the wormhole aliens.

I would have said that Far Beyond The Stars was Sisko's Inner Light. I think it had a more profound effect on him. I'd argue that Rapture had more of an impact also. The Visitor is fantastic but I still see it as a Jake story.

I agree that Far Beyond The Stars is closer to being Sisko's Inner Light, though whenever I see The Visitor I do always think of Inner Light. It's probably because they are each series' respective best dramatic episode. As for which one I like better, it's funny, I personally like to think that The Inner Light is better, yet whenever I see The Visitor, I sometimes become aware of a strange liquidy substance forming around my eyes. Besides, this was more like Jake's Inner Light.
