The very best of Stargate's sentimental side.

SG-17

I want to show some friends a few episodes of Stargate to prove to them that science fiction isn't just all space battles and technobabble. I've already shown them "The Inner Light" and "Family" from TNG, "The Omega Glory" and "The City on the Edge of Forever" from TOS (which they've responded well to).
For Stargate I was thinking of "Cold Lazarus", "A Hundred Days", and "Life Boat". Any suggestions for additions or subtractions?

I've always liked the fourth season episode "The Curse" from SG1. The stuff about Daniel seeing his old college friends was a nice change of pace, although by the end it was your typical SG1 episode.

"Window of Opportunity" might work. I always get a little twinge at the end when O'neill is talking down the space-widower from trying to go back in time.

I'd show them the episode 'Heroes' for sentimentality/emotional power, though the impact of the episode may be lacking for those who don't watch the series...

Heroes is overrated, imho. I agree with David cgc that Window of Opportunity would be a better fit for what the OP is trying to accomplish.

Learning Curve and Scorched Earth would possibly be good choices for this.

Ascension maybe? Great episode. Back when ascension and the ancients were still cool and mysterious.

No mention of Meridian or Abyss yet?

I'll give some props to Between Two Fires as well. Say what you want about the Tollan, they didn't deserve that.

^^^All good. And why not The Changeling? Though I got the impression the OP was more interested in earlier episodes. I'm not sure how, since Lifeboat wasn't an early one.

Daniel's parting scene in Meridian.

"I'll miss you guys."

Carter looking through Daniel's office in Revelations and Teal'c admitting that he too wishes Daniel was back with them even though he may have accomplished something of incredible cosmic significance.

*breaks out episode guide from my 10 season box set* how about The Enemy Within(1x2), Singularity (1x15 the Cassandra episode), Family (2x8 with Rya'c being brainwashed) Forever in a Day (3x10 the one where Sha're dies) A Hundred Days (3x17, O'Neill trapped on a planet by an asteroid) Rite of Passage (5x6 Cassandra goes all Carrie, only without the carnage) Menace (5x19 SG-1 learns of the origin of the replicators) Fallout (7x14, the only multi dimensional Goa'uld charater we see, also Jonas Quinn) Heroes Pt 1 & 2 (7x17-18) Affinity (8x7 Teal'c gets an apartment off-base)

Are we only talking about SG-1? Atlantis had it's moments like "The Shrine" (506), "Sunday" (317), and even "Before I Sleep" (115).

Forever in a Day, Scorched Earth, Need, Absolute Power, Meridian--all more about the people than the science or the explosions.

I can't really comment as to Atlantis episodes, since the only season I have is season 2, and I stopped watching in the middle of Season 3

you looking for earnestness and educational value, and a story kids like? sga, 4th season, midway. the two big guys teaming up and kicking ass. well, seriously, i think the episodes where the jerk rodney becomes nice are pretty sentimental, tao of rodney, and shrine perhaps.
