From the preview it looks like it will be a great season. One thing I guess is finally answered, Henry will be a slim handsome man waaaaay past the real Henry VIII. Looks like Showtime isn't prepared to let go is the female audience from 15-40. Oh well, at least the acting is great, realism can be suspended.

Anyone else looking forward to this?

Henry not being overweight is a huge slap in the fact to history. Him changing from one of the handsomest young men in the kingdom to being hugely overweight and unable to compete in jousting tournaments because of the leg injury he sustained right before had had Anne killed played a major role in Henry's psychology. It added to his rage and paranoia. Henry was so "repulsed" by his fourth wife because she didn't find him attractive. That there were princesses who didn't want to marry him after Jane Seymour's death left him incredulous. Was it Christina of Denmark who had the gall to turn down his proposal? Henry still being slim and attractive at this point is just ludicrous.

Oops, will a mod please change the title to Todors? Thanks!

Why not Fodors while you're at it. It's about time we had a historical fiction travelogue.

...sadly they're moving into the period of Henry VIII's reign that I find painfully dull and depressingly wretched. Plus the plotline with Catherine Howard is obviously cribbed from the Anne Boleyn story. :p

I hope they focus on Mary and Elizabeth's stories. I'm assuming this saga will go on after Henry croaks (from excessive good looks, apparently).

Is every season a different wife?

Nope, two per season.

And i just love the people who think it's a slap in the face to history that he isn't fat! It's a fucking TV show! They have taken 20 years of history and stuck it into about 2 years because....

IT'S JUST A FUCKING TV SHOW!

'Coming soon: the Washingtons! Watch lothario George kick the British out of America, India and everywhere else, while shagging every good looking woman on the planet..."

But yep, Henry VIII wasn't that fat for a lot of his life. Not until his last decade or so.
Season three is reaching the point where his beer gut ought to be causing his tailors problems though ('Look, you tell him he won't fit into that any more.' 'No, you do it - I quite like my head where it is...').

Changing Henry VII to Henry VIII
Which reminds me - why the heck do Tudor stories always ignore poor Henry VII? He only usurped the throne and put his offspring in the position to have these stories in the first place! His life was interesting! Yet he gets bupkis. Maybe they could do a prequel?

Another random thought, are they going to do a side story on Mary Queen of Scots? Didn't they write her Tudor grandmother out of the story already?

I think they merged her and her sister to avoid confusing the 'hard-of-thinking', but yes, once the story reaches Elizabeth's reign, the writers may have to do a bit of tap-dancing to explain how Mary QoS has a claim on the English throne in their version of history...

PS: Usurp? Henry Tudor didn't do anything that any self-respecting nobleman wasn't doing over the previous 150 years. He just happened to be last man standing once they'd all killed each other, and got to keep it all... ;-)

I'm just watching S2 now since I don't have Showtime.

I'm so glad you love me! :)

In all seriously, it's fucking retarded to BASE A SHOW ON A CHARACTER and then not even come CLOSE to getting his physical looks right. Henry VIII was not slim and dark.

Then again, they got Katherine of Aragon wrong too. She wasn't the typical dark Spanish woman. She had auburn hair.

If they don't want to pay attention to such niceties, then DON'T BASE THE SHOW ON HISTORICAL FIGURES. Make up a show from the same time period with some fake country and a fake king.

Oh wait...people wouldn't watch then. Because they're watching to see the misadventures of Henry VIII.

Why am I watching? It's an amusing show. I wince at the many inaccuracies but it beats 95% of what's on the boob tube.

But it could have beat 100%. Too bad.

Consider it a guilty pleasure, not meant to be taken anywhere near seriously. The historical re-enactor in me can't ignore the gross inaccuracies, but that doesn't mean others won't enjoy the "90210" flavor.

I, however, love historical fiction (which is really what this is) and can't wait for season three! :techman:
