The Tripods appreciation thread

Thought I'd start a discussion of the 80s BBC series "The Tripods", based on the John Christopher novels (good thing Kirk returned him to Earth, otherwise it would never have been written!). I first saw it when it ran on PBS in '84 or so. Although I was slightly turned off by the bad FX, I thought it was a great series and was disappointed it was canceled before they adapted the final novel. I've always hoped that a remake would emerge with contemporary VFX.

For those who aren't aware of the books/series, here's the Wiki entry:

Any other long lost Tripods fans out there?

It sounded so familiar... and now I remember being a huge fan of the books as a teenager!

I loved it growing up. I read City of Gold and Lead and then a year or two later, the television series showed up on the local PBS station, probably around the same time as you. You can still see the series on Youtube, at least some of it.

I read them in the correct order, but that was mainly because my brother and his friends, who had encountered them first, read City of Gold And Lead first, and realized their mistake. Otherwise, I would have read them out of order myself.

I remember reading those, many moons ago. Tripods, metal eggs, and mind-controlling garnets, oh my.

I'd read the books a couple of years before was was excited when started on Australian tv.

Was on ch7 around 4 (might have been 4:30 in the afternoon).

Though I think initially on the first season was shown. The second turned up sometime later.

I LOVED those books when I was a kid.
I don't remember when the series aired in my area but it was some time after. I was thrilled, because no one else I knew had even HEARD of the books.

My first exposure to them was a serialized graphic novel version in "Boys Life". It went through White Mountains, City of Gold and Lead, and finally Pool of Fire.

This was great afternoon TV over here. I remember this show and being bummed out that they never finished the story.
