News The Thing reboot in development at Blumhouse, Carpenter involved

No, he didn't. He said he "might be involved with it, down the road."
No, that's not what he said. The full quote, in context with the question, is:

Later in the Q&A, Carpenter was asked if he had talked with Blumhouse chief Jason Blum about directing any projects himself.
“I have? I don’t know about that,” Carpenter said. “But we’ve talked about — I think he’s going to be working on ‘The Thing,’ rebooting ‘The Thing.’ I'm involved with that, maybe. Down the road.”

He said that he is involved. The 'maybe. Down the road' part is the answer to the question on directing.

There's no way to top the 1982 version's story or cast. Period. It was all the 2011 prequel could do just to even come close enough to complement/supplement that, and it was done in by the same CGI this reboot would have to rely on. The 1950 version was its own unique Thing, very distantly related to the original short story the '82 version was born from.

Now if Carpenter's talking something like the last Halloween movie - where it's present day, the Thing has finally made it to the mainland after four decades, and an ancient and frostbite-scarred Kurt Russell is the only one with any clue what's going on - that would be interesting indeed.

I wish that there was more interest (at least among content creators) in Big Trouble in Little China. In my mind, that is richer territory to mine than The Thing. Seems like Halloween and The Thing are the only (er...) things you hear much about when it comes to Carpenter projects lately.

Even from a pure horror standpoint something like Prince of Darkness could be interesting and I think would fit Blumhouse style of production. Maybe they'll surprise me with something plot-wise but this seems like Netflix fodder at best.

^Agree. I'd rather a Big Trouble, They Live, In the Mouth of Madness, Prince of Darkness, Escape From...

Boom Studios has done a whole bunch of Big Trouble in Little China and Escape from New York comics.
