The Thick Of It series 2

Bob The Skutter

Complete Arse Cleft
In Memoriam
The new series of The Thick of It will be airing starting on the Saturday the 24th on BBC Two and HD at 10:10pm.

Armando Iannucci's political comedy returns for a new series and begins on "Reshuffle Day" at No. 10. Nicola Murray is so far down the list of prospective ministers that Malcolm Tucker doesn't even have a file on her. But when the job at the Department of Social Affairs and Citizenship is turned down by everybody else, there's no option but to promote her to the Cabinet.
The downside is that Nicola is very keen. She also has expensive ideas and ideals; a husband who works for a company that has government contracts; an 11-year-old about to go to a private school; and she's about to face the media at a crucial by-election poster launch. Suddenly, Malcolm's got a file that's getting a bit too big for comfort. Something will have to be done.

They're also showing the Spinners and Losers special will be on at 12:25 the night before.

Yeah, it was announced a while back, about the time In The Loop came out. Series 2 is gonna be 8 episodes, so it's a bit longer this time.

I've never seen any of the show, but In the Loop was hysterical. I hope this makes its way over here to the states.

I don't know if the series ever aired over in the US, but apparently they did a pilot for ABC.

From Wikipedia

Iannucci distanced himself from the pilot stating "It was terrible...they took the idea and chucked out all the style. It was all conventionally shot and there was no improvisation or swearing. It didn't get picked up, thank god."[22] Other networks including HBO, Showtime, and NBC expressed interest in the show,[23] and in April 2009, Iannucci re-entered talks with HBO over the possibility of an American adaptation.[22]

I have just ordered the film in the loop on DVD.
Wonder what mail service amazon are using these days.

Anyone who didn't needs to do so promptly - Malcolm Tucker is back and angry as ever. Rebecca Front is a good addition - someone who stands up to Malcolm (sort of) is different enough to Hugh getting steamrollered at every opportunity.

My favourite scene was when Malcolm appeared from out of nowhere before he and Nicola had their conversation in the lift ("You're not sending your child to state school, your husband's bent and you're fucking mental!"). It reminded me of one of my favourite parts of the first series:

"Jesus, Malcolm! How do you sneak up on people in a building made of glass!?"
"Well clearly I'm a fucking shapeshifter aren't I?"

I'm about to go to the cinema and see Saw 6, I'll watch it when I get home. I need to get ahold of the first series, I've only ever seen the specials.

I loved Malcolm tonight.
After in the thick of finished i put in the loop dvd on. I did not enjoy it all that much.
I hated the scene where
Malcolm was put in his place by the American version of himself.

Just watching the episode now. Planning on watching the first series as soon as possible... just what I need, extra stuff to watch when my media centre is full of shite already.

I expect Armando Iannucci had to add that bit in to get a US distributor -- no American wants to see one of their army generals (fictional or otherwise) shouted down by an "Englishman".

I thought yesterday's episode was very watered-down on the swearing front. I hope this isn't a result of the series moving to 2.

I can't say I noticed less swearing than usual. As if they need swearing when Malcolm comes up with something like "You are the omni-shambles!"

I'm sure the swearing will return when Jamie turns up :D

It would not surprise me to find out that someone had made a list of how much swearing there is in each episode just so they could complain.

Like the Media Watch list that said there was something like 8,000 swear words in Jerry Springer the opera, turned out they were counting everyone who sung the word in the choruses, etc.

I've only seen a very small amount of the show before. I think I'll watch this season.

Incidentally, Jerry Springer: The Opera is superb. Very funny.
